it looks like this is getting worse for FIFA. They may finally be in real trouble. While the Swiss arrested the blokes for the FBI, they also raided FIFA's Zurich headquarters in direct relation to the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. If Prince Ali has any political nouse about him, he can turn this into a political goldmine. I have maintained for a while that if Blatter gets re-elected, FIFA will die the death of 1000 cuts.

FIFA needs to die really. It'll be sad with the history of World Cups but I'd be glad to see the end of FIFA.

It doesn't need to die; it does need a full restructure. The theory of a global, generalised, football association still works. It should just be mostly administrative and much, much, much less invasive.
e. g. Stage the World Cup, the hosts of which are selected by a free and open ballot. None of this, 'We have to share the gift of football with everybody let's all hug and sing Kumbaya M'Lord' bullshit. Stay the fuck out of politics. Raise money to pay for World Cups and to give grants to developing football nations.

The problem is I'm not sure that this FIFA is capable of reform to that level. They will continuously just do the bare minimum while trying to make it appear that they are up to the job. For crap's sake, at the press conference the spokeschap tried to spin it that these arrests were part of FIFA's clean up process! The balls on these bastards!

yup, i think it needs to be torn down and re-built from scratch.
it needs to be more administrative than invasive as bestie alludes to, and there needs to be more ex-players/those with the interests of the game at heart. regardless of whether blatter is directly implicated in this recent shitstorm, it happened under his watch and for that, he needs to go.
the problem with the current organisation is that it's 80% 60+ year old men whose personalities are more politician than CEO/board of directors.

Awesome news, didn't expect it to be the FBI gunning for them. Not only are they corrupt cunts, they had the audacity to suggest we were just sore losers after the bids when we dared to bring it up. Shame it didn't come earlier with the 'election' coming up soon.

Mark Palios, the FA's former chief executive, says that, for the first time, Fifa are not above the law.
"People say it's a bad day for football, personally I think when they reflect it will be a good for football," he said.
"The problem in the past has been getting evidence. Any sporting body who conducts any investigation has difficulty in getting evidence.
"What we have now is the invention of the legislatures, the police, the FBI and the first time they are able to get the evidence. They are now subject to the law rather than above the law."

good news to wake up to today. the first step in hopefully a crippling blow to FIFA and its current leaders.
this FBI probe has been long in coming, they seem to have struck at the most opportunistic time, good on them.
this is just the tip of the iceberg, however. i have no doubt the FBI has more dirt on other officials, i suspect the jurisdiction and getting concrete and legitimate evidence from those jurisdictions is the reason more persons havent been held today. if you notice, most of those held are from the CONCACAF region, where the US has a lot of sway and influence. Chuck Blazer was the head of CONCACAF after all, so that makes sence that this set was held first.
they missed out on the other whales though. maybe for a long time now.

Lets have this right, the US are only doing this because their WC bid got shafted.
If they had won the hosting right for the WC this would not have happened.
But it is about time someone tried to get the corrupt cunts.

The fact that the Swiss police also raided FIFA's Zurich HQ suggests that this could be the beginning of a big international FBI/Interpol led investigation into FIFA. If so, this will be huge. I agree with the quotes above from Mark Palios, this is a very good thing for football, just a very bad thing for FIFA.
