Fcuking hell mate, I'd be ecstatic if we signed Song on loan for the season and pull off Di Maria.
Buy Strootman in January and the nightmare is manageable. Point is, we couldn't get Fabregas or Kroos, regardless of how well the club try and save face, these are World Cup and European Cup winners, they want CL football. Vidal still hasn't recovered sufficiently to even play a pre-season game, so our two prime targets (Stroots and Arturo) are essentially off the table, for now - a Song loan makes too much sense, meaning it'll never happen.

Di Maria and a good CM would represent a good summer. Still a bit short in terms of quality in mid and defense but hell a lot better than start of the window.

On what evidence are we basing the Strootman in Jan thing? On the fact that he's Dutch and LvG apparently liked him for the Holland squad? Sorry, but I'm not buying the saviour comes in winter hype. We need players now. Strootman in Jan is fine so long as he joins a good central midfield. Not sauntering in all Stannis Inquisition like ready to save the world. Seems a tad like wishful thinking to me. Sorry to be the cynic and all.

From SportWitness:
Angel di Maria's star has been rising at an alarming rate in Madrid. It's almost like there's been a sudden realisation that the player is in fact one of the world's best and Real madrid would be absolute fools to let him go. Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone made clear his feeling for his fellow Argentine after the two clubs met earlier this week, Simeone said that Di Maria was the best player at Real Madrid and was the difference when he came on in the first leg of the Spanish super cup.
Marca have conflicting views on the subject. On Wednesday they said there was an important offer from manchester United on the table and that 'all the indications were' that Di Maria would be leaving Spain within the next few days. there were social media claims of a move being done in 48 hours but Mundo Deportivo, a Catalan newspaper, had got those from Caught Offside.
However, it's not incorrect to suggest the pendulum in Spain was swinging toward the idea of a move happening quickly. And, given PSG's FFP hamstring, Manchester United looked the most likely destination.
However, Marca have the ability to change their mind and on Thursday start what looks like a campaign to keep the player at Real Madrid. They claim the club has tried to please the player with new contracts but won't go as high as €8m or €9m per year... they won't pay him like they do their best. That's what Di Maria wants and Marca can wish he stays as much as they like, but if Manchester United offer that and push around €60m to €75m in the direction of Real Madrid then a deal will be done.
Di Maria looks set to take part in the super cup second leg this evening and it could be his goodbye match, with him them fulfilling Marca's earlier claim and moving over the next week.
Edward Woodward, your time is now.

If we sign Di Maria but no central, engine, midfielder this summer will still amount to an abject failure.
That's how badly we need Vidal. Or Carvalho. Or de Jong. Or any fucking central midfielder who can dominate the midfield, by himself.

La Decima was all because of Angel di Maria and his non stop running. But yes he will not be used centrally so it makes no difference to us.

Ancelotti: "Di María has asked to leave & rejected offer from club. [But] if he does not find future solution he stays no problem"

I'm actually beginning to unfairly resent Di Maria for not being Vidal or Carvalho/other central midfielder name here.
And Di Maria is CLASS.

If we sign Di Maria the quality of tge EPL will have really lifted this season. Liverpool and Arsenal are really trying to avoid decline and Chelsea will be strong in europe.

Di Maria will be like the Mata signing. MEGA, but wholly unnecessary.

Disagree Tatt. If LVG switches to his preffered 433 then Di Maria would be a fucking beast. Depends on that formation switch obviously, which is in turn dependant on us signing others.

In the grand scheme of things, Di Maria is anything but unnecessary. Apart from maybe Reus there are no other WC wingers available. We would obviously still need a DM or enforcer type CM but it's not prudent to pass up on ADM when the gaffer has said he cannot play a 4-3-3 from the lack quality of wingers.

Di Maria will enable LVG to play 4-3-3 but that STILL doesn't fix our central midfield problem. It will STILL be Herrera paired with a past-his-best Fletcher, 33 year old Carrick, non-entity Cleverley or offers-nothing Anderson.

Or we could promote Pearson! How much worse can he do really?
