He's wanted out since April, let him go. Missed far too many chances not good enough for a striker at United. Forced a move to Arsenal too. Time will tell, but I don't think he'll pull up trees at Arsenal.

16 million for a striker who struggles to score? Don't think that was bad business at all.

Danny can run like a gazelle and has boundless energy, but in front of goal it was like he had the yips. Deployed out on the wing was a waste, and as the focal point of our attack he never justified his selection. He's not a 20 goals per season kind of player, and frankly that's what is required if we aspire to win the league.
Local boy, all that, but he's had a few good years at United, had his chance, and now I wish him all the best.

Pretty sure Welbeck was deployed as the CF for those games. Give him minutes at CF and he scores.

Moyes messed him around and in the end like all young players at that point in their career when they need a lift to the next level he didn't reach his potential. I blame Moyes for ruining Cleverly, Kagawa, Chico and Welbeck. Inevitable they have gone but a serious loss of credit to the profit and loss account all the same. The true cost of Moyes must have reached £100 million!!

Disappointed that we have sold him to them, for no other reason than the recent Vermaelen bid.

Poor use of his skills, throwing him into attrition games like Stoke away without any support, leaving him up front alone, benching him, pushing him out on the wing, then up front, then the middle. He needed a spot to set down some control to allow his game to flourish but it never happened. Fergie started the process when he kept him, and all he needed was a settled season but the ditherer turned it into a calamity. I bet Wenger, who's no fool, will do just that and he will flourish.

16 million for a striker who struggles to score? Don't think that was bad business at all. Spot on - I know he tried hard and had a bit of pace but his finishing was dire TBH His main strength was getting us free kicks around the box when he got pushed over - would have been a good impact sub but I'd rather see Willo getting a few appearances under his belt I'd snap anyone's hand off to get £16M for him - even if he's gone to a rival Now watch him get the hump when Wenger plays him wide left

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29026398"They have probably lost the way of Manchester United a little bit," Phelan told BBC Sport. Now, rather than produce, it may be the case where they are buying in. He added: "Someone like a Danny Welbeck has been part of United's identity and that has been broken. What will happen in the future now, nobody knows but that thread has been broken now."
