It was poetry reading some of those comments from Paul Parker. It's nice that most of us here agree on Rooney's merits (or lack thereof) but it's just a relief to know that someone outside of this board feels the same. I'm so tired of hearing the media, pundits etc... bleat on about how he's the greatest English player since Gascoigne, he's world class, he's on a par with RVP and Falcao, he's England's most creative threat etc... It's bullshit. I used to love the guy but for the past few years he's been mostly shite and looks burned out and past it, kind of understandable when you consider the guy has been a first-team fixture since the age of 16 and in that whole time he's been in the global spotlight too. He's never fulfilled the potential dumped on his shoulders but at the same time he's hardly endeared himself to fans with his off and on the field antics over the years.
The guy needs to move away from United, for the good of our team and for the good of what's left of his career. He's only 28, 29 in October, but with his physical build and the sheer length of time he's been in first team football, I honestly think he only has a couple of years left in him at the most.

Scholesy called it a few months back and he is spot on with everything United so far. The media is slowly waking up to the fact that CC is now just an overrated washed up player who is no good for the team.
Sterling, Welbz and dipper cunt Sturridge all outperformed him for England. Once Barkley returns, PHC should be consigned to the bench. The hunger, desire and motivation long gone imo.
Now that we are best buds with RM and they need a striker, hopefully can flog the cunt off in the summer.

OK haven't seen one so I'll knock this up as he's been pissing me off lately. Plus he seems to be a hot topic of late. Schmeichel has come out with this cracker as well. Have a lot of time for him and admire him as an ex player but this is just fucking tripe. mufclatest.com/schmeichel-rooney-is-the-most-important-united-player-in-history/I've selected this section as a highlight. All I have to say is he needs to remember fergies last season. “If he is told today he plays centre half then he says ok and he’ll be the best centre half you’ll see. Tomorrow you are going to be central midfield and he’ll say ok and he will do a superb job. He might say I really want to play up front but if the manager wants me to play somewhere else I will do a good job. That mentality doesn’t exist in too many footballers these days."

Think I must've been watching the wrong channel on my TV for some time definitely on different channel than Schmeichel. First statement he made about new guys not having that United "stuff", pffffffft! Seems to me it was "new guy" passing the ball forward, and it was Captain Kangaroo that pushed it backwards. I hope LvG puts Rooney in as box to box, because that is the one place I can see him benefiting the teamn. Seems to me that the Rooney I've seen is more concerned with his own stats and how much $$ he can suck out of the club than anything. Hell, this season seemed he was coming around, then once he got the armband he decided he would get lazy again. Far as him being the Captain, when I played 'murican football, the guy the coaches thought was MVP for that game would be the one walking out as Captain the next game. Maybe LvG ought to do the same. His philosophy, his system is all about TEAM, let the players toss a name into the hat after every game and give the man whose name shows up the most that armband for next game.

Okay, it's spanned a few threads already, so this is an effort to centralise the talk about it. Paul Parker is basically a lone voice in ex-pro's football media pundits who is actually speaking out completely against the Rooney hype and bullshit so many of us have been disgusted at and disagreeing with for a long time. This isn't a guy who people can excuse his criticisms away as 'personal malice' clouding his judgment of Rooney, he's an ex-United player. It's been a long, long, time coming. Everyone is talking about his latest Blog post, but it is not the first time he has pointed out that Wayne Rooney is failing, consistently, to reach the minimum levels expected of an allegedly 'World Class' player. He has also spoken out - rightly, in my view - against Rooney getting the captaincy. Latest: Falcao Should Spell the End for RooneyRecent: Rooney's Lack of LeadershipSignings Won't Save Us If Rooney Must PlayCaptaincy: uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/paul-parker/why-rooney-doesn-t-deserve-captaincy-150134850.htmlI'm usually against just posting links, but he deserves the hits to be honest. Why not have a general thread on PHC and the captaincy, and run a season long poll to see how our opinions change? It's your post but you do seem to have triggered discussions.

Good plan. Done.
Added a poll, going for 'just footballing options', a 'just off-field' option, and a 'Both' option. If people would like more options, just ask and they can either be added or respectfully rejected (in case someone wants to add 'He's a c*nt' or something for example. Trying to avoid it descending into pure Rooney-bashing.)
Also, in case people are confused, ASARP is : As Soon As Reasonably Possible

I'm a 100% backer of the bottom option, but I have chosen the second option. This is purely to back up with no confusion that he does not belong on the pitch on current form.
The second option stops people saying you're being biased, everyone makes mistakes and you're just Rooney bashing but no one can honestly argue against the fact that right now, Rooney is not good enough.

You make a very good point...I don't want to 'Rooney-bash' just for the off field stuff...we have probably had worse in the past so based upon that, I will revise my vote to Option 2 - except that I would also like him sold... So, somewhere between 2 and 4 really... Maybe the selling him option for purely footballing reasons should be an option?

Rooney is a tin man. He should have gone before Fergie left. He has long been a problem child and when Fergie benched him, ipso facto we won the league without him. At that time the case against Rooney was crystal clear, he had to go.
What happened next is today's problem. Moyes dithered, Rooney stayed, and was then cast in stone with a powerful commercial contract. Under Moyes he was all over the place and in many respects undermined other players like Chico, Welbeck and Kagawa. All the while Rooney's performance continued to decline.
Now LVG has made him captain and horrible Hodgson has thrown his two penny worth in with the national captaincy. His performances for club and country are just awful. There is no equation or logic to explain Rooney's performances and his valuation, except the purchasing power of his name. IMO it will take someone like ADM to out sell shirts and stuff before Rooney is once again treated like the average player he is.

Either I can re-do it, or we can all agree to consider a vote for two an vote for either dropped from the starting XI or sold for footballing reasons?

I'm a stuck record and in my head Kags was Rooneys replacement. Then the fucking supply teacher came in and made him CAPTAIN!... Moyes has left a bloody legacy thats for sure! sooner Rooney is ditched then the Moyes Legacy can die or burn in a fire.
Just hope Rooney plays poorly Monday and next thing ya know he will be dropped. LVG aint stupid soon as he see's he is not performing Rooneys days are numbered.
I have questioned myself though, and id like to ask your opinions lads/ladys. We all know the class of 92 are best mates and all were extremely close to Fergie so if Fergie had issues with Rooney you'd expect the others too and since Scholes is not holding back on his comments now im sure he'd be whispering stuff into Giggsy ear. So how the hell did LVG give Rooney Captaincy? Surely he would have discussed it with Giggys right?
