Was confused between 2 and 4, but chose #4. As I said earlier, I dont hate him, but feel that for the best interest and progression of the team, he should be sold asap. Would have chosen #2, but doesn't seem appropriate to have a £300k earner on the bench. Sell him and get a solid CB and MF, and we have a potential CL winner.

I'm a stuck record and in my head Kags was Rooneys replacement. Then the fucking supply teacher came in and made him CAPTAIN!... Moyes has left a bloody legacy thats for sure! sooner Rooney is ditched then the Moyes Legacy can die or burn in a fire. Just hope Rooney plays poorly Monday and next thing ya know he will be dropped. LVG aint stupid soon as he see's he is not performing Rooneys days are numbered. I have questioned myself though, and id like to ask your opinions lads/ladys. We all know the class of 92 are best mates and all were extremely close to Fergie so if Fergie had issues with Rooney you'd expect the others too and since Scholes is not holding back on his comments now im sure he'd be whispering stuff into Giggsy ear. So how the hell did LVG give Rooney Captaincy? Surely he would have discussed it with Giggsy right?I genuinely don't think van Gaal had as much choice as we'd like to believe. I cannot accept van Gaal saw Wayne Rooney as the best candidate in our squad to lead this new team. Was confused between 2 and 4, but chose #4. Was going for 'Should be gone (either from starting, or sold) purely on football reasons'.

interesting question just entered my head.
if rooney was to be sold, what reaction would he receive (both on here, and from the more casual fans at OT) on his return? this may seem simple, but when you take into account his standing in our all-time stats and records leaders, does it seem a little ungrateful?

I still feel sad that Kagawa couldn't hold his own in the team and a big reason was Rooney. But aye, we shouldn't have let him have this bargaining power, should have shipped him at the time of 2nd transfer request itself.

Despite his Captaincy, hes in his weakest position at the club now. Mata, Di Maria and Falcao are giving us top class options. He really should have to earn his place on merit and thats the way LvG operates. Can't see him being allowed to play through a patch of bad form till he gets momentum and starts delivering like he usually had.
Not sure how much the Captaincy choice mean anything. Fletcher as Vice, but Blind will essentially replace him not to mention Carrick due to return eventually. With the squad being rebuilt, 4 'old hands' leaving, lots of new players coming in to be starters it was a shit time to be picking a Captain.

It could have been so different.
Had we gotten rid of Rooney last season Kagawa would still have been here.
For me that was the straw that broke the camel's back - he caused the departure of my favorite player at the club.
You might say it was Moyes' fault for buying Mata, but when you think about it, Rooney has always been a striker, this #10 shite only started happening when he became worse up front than our other options.

Mentioned it in another thread, but:
Anyone else think LvG was having a veiled dig at Rooney when he spoke of 'commercial commitments'?
Like it or not, Wayne is our most marketable player. He's United & England skipper, his wife is a darling of the day-time watching, Heat readers. Has two young sons. And kids love him. You've only got to go to a park in and around Manchester and see Rooney 10 on near enough every kid in a United kit.
However, with the additions of proper World Class talent in Mata, ADM and Falcao his position as the most marketable man here.
Mata is handsome young chap with a proper smart dress sense. For Mata - Read Beckham.
Di Maria and Falcao will grab all the headlines with their skills and goals, and every kid likes a player with silky skills and a top notch goal-scoring record. For Di Maria - Read Ronaldo. Falcao=RvN. All players who were poster boys for our club.
It may be the time, next Summer to sell Wayne off to pastures new and build around a new man.

There are so many formations that these players allow us to play by just changing the support personnel and managing who is up front ahead of them. these guys also have a good decade ahead of time at the top level.

There's been one question floating around the forum that seems to divide opinion.
IF Captain Rooney continues his current spell of lackluster displays and the players around him improve(which is likely to happen)will he get dropped from the starting 11? You could argue if Rooney continues to start games on his current form that it's Rooney 1st Team 2nd.
