Aymeric Laporte for me, left sided, young and class. Then get Varane in summer, Smalling and Evans to Sunderland/West Brom, Jones and Rojo as back up centre halves/full backs. Get Clyne/Coleman in as well, that's defence sorted for foreseeable future?!?! Get DDG signed up too!
Spunk a wad of cash on Pogba and your talking title challenge...

I don't understand where the thought that Varane is available or even keen to leave Real originated.

I don't understand where the thought that Varane is available or even keen to leave Real originated. He has only played 10 games in La Liga ths season. Could be why? You know what the gossip columns are like.

Change of heart, the midfield can wait until the summer, a CB and RB please (Clyne and Garay would be ideal and realistic). I honestly think that would cement our top four place, without any reinforcements we should still make it but I think it could go right up to the wire.

Our midfield has actually been fine for the most part and should improve further once Rooney is removed from it. I agree, CB and RB this winter would be great particularly CB.

Yea I agree, I think it's just about finding the right combination. I think LvG has refrained from playing Di Maria further back due to his lack of defensive contributions, but after Saturday I think it shows that he HAS to play deeper as he's much more effective. Although we looked 10x better on Saturday when he dropped back and we switched to a flat back four, the full backs were very exposed. Blind especially was doubled up on numerous times in the second half and that's something we need to prevent. 4-3-1-2 could be an option, again though it leaves the full backs with a lot of work to do and exposed. DDG Rafael Smalling Rojo Shaw Herrera Carrick Fellaini Di Maria Wilson Falcao Could potentially work, with that midfield trio it'd give the defence more protection as well with Rooney and Mata not in there. Still feel we really do need a proper replacement for Carrick though before next season, keep banging on about him but Schneiderlin is the one for me. Would be perfect at the base of midfield with Strootman and Herrera/Di Maria in front of him. And by suggesting we do need a replacement for Carrick, I am saying that Blind is not that player. A squad player but no more, too slow to be the player we build our midfield around.

If we could play a decent formation and sort our defence out, I think the midfield would be just fine.
Someone like Strootman would be nice and all, but looking at our midfielders it's a different world to 2 years ago.

I would rather spend big on acquiring a potential world class future CB, regardless of the clamour for "experience", than Garay. For that reason I'd say Laporte (Marquinhos?) & Clyne - especially given what's being briefed to the press regarding our massive budget. Trigger Aymeric's release clause and do what's necessary to get Clyne, he's not got long on his contract left either. From there we can ship out the rest of the remaining deadwood, bring in a winger and check on the status of Strootman, Pogba et al. for midfield in the summer, which should really become a priority considering the extra matches our (hopefully) European campaign will result in.

If a good striker is available, I will swap Rooney for some better, quick and attractive football. As I said in some other post, no offence to Rooney, I am just being a bit selfish in being desperate to see some magic on the football field, which we are capable of.

I will be glad when this Jan window closes. All the transfer speculations flying around is giving me a headache. Roll on February and then we can just get on with the rest of the season. Then summer time and all the speculations start all over again.

Then summer time and all the speculations start all over again. This is nothing mate. There were very low expectations and the window has been true to it. Wait for the summer window, it is madness out here. You start understanding the meaning of the word addiction then, when you refresh the screen 100's of times in a day

Godin.
Heard somewhere that Simeone said the board can sell the whole team, just not Godin.
