Haven't seen it touched upon on here so thought I'd see what people think about the situation.
Sheff Utd wanted to re-sign him but the backlash against it changed their mind. Apparently Tranmere have now refused him too.
Should a club give him another go or should he be affectively barred from football forever?
The supporters of his will say that Mike Tyson kept fighting and made hundreds of millions of dollars after he was released from prison, why can't Evans get back into his sport? He's served his time and is now a free man. If you restrict what he can do he might as well be back in prison. If a plumber, carpenter, or whatever was jailed for rape they would be allowed to get back into the industry afterwards, so why can't he? And doesn't everyone deserve a 2nd chance?
His detractors will say that his job isn't a normal one. Plumbers, carpenters, whatever don't have thousands of fans paying money to watch them work. They're not role models for young lads. Tyson is a different case. Again, individuals don't have the kind of support that clubs do. You couldn't really stop Tyson doing what he wanted (well, you could by refusing him a licence but he was too big a money machine), whereas clubs can refuse to sign Evans. So he hasn't been "Banned" from football, just no club wants a convicted rapist on their books. How does it look to female fans that this guy can commit a hideous crime and be back kicking a ball about for a living, picking up a couple of thousand a week for doing it?
I'm kinda stuck in the middle. I would not want United to sign someone that had been convicted of his crime, but I'd ask if it was any worse than Lee Hughes, who done a runner after killing someone, and still got a club straight after he came out of prison?
Suppose I'd have to go with clubs not signing him. His life isn't over, he can get another job, still a young fit able bodied bloke. Nothing to stop him going to uni and training for another profession.

Rape is rape. He shows absolutely no remorse. Unlike so many bullshit claims against footballers/celebrities, this guy was convicted in a Court of Law. The 'time' he served was a joke anyway.
Getting paid to play football is a privilege, a gift. You rape someone, you forfeit that privilege. Perfectly decent people break legs at 20 and never go on to have the career they should have. Ched Evans can fuck off from the public eye and go work in a second hand haulage shop or something.
EDIT: Yeah, I'm not big on the 'Rehabilition' aspect of our criminal justice system. Works for some crimes, but certain things in my book are unforgivable and irredeemable.

The girl had made several claims before and tweeted about how happy she was to be getting a pay day out of it. There was nothing violent about the crime. She went to his hotel room voluntarily and then woke up and said she didn't remember anything. No drugs were found in her system and no alcohol either. New video evidence shows she didn't even look intoxicated when entering the hotel room. If he loses his appeal then he's made a disgusting mistake but not something he can't come back from. Brendan Rodgers son imo did the exact same thing. Better Lawyers equals not guilty and allowed to keep playing football.

My comments on the victim are to show she doesn't seem to be traumatized rather than she's not a victim.
It was a case of her word vs his. How can you convict someone on that? No evidence at all and then bam, life over.

If it's not then I still believe in rehabilitation but I won't really care if he gets it.

Yeah, if he gets the conviction overturned then he can get back into the game, of course.
Such a touchy subject, I mentioned Tyson continuing to fight originally, could also say Roman Polanski continued making movies after raping a 13 year old girl.
If the conviction stands then would have to agree with Bestie that clubs shouldn't be signing him. Football has done so much to paint itself in a positive light after the 70's and 80's, having a convicted rapist (who had lost his appeal) running around playing would tarnish the sport. And he has forfeited his right to make a great living by doing something most of us would have given our left ball to do.

I guess the argument isn't really if he guilty or not but if he should be allowed back in the game but I checked out the case recently and it was pretty interesting.
The victim went to Evans hotel room with Evans mate who was also up for rape. He was found not guilty as she went up voluntarily. He sent a text to Evans saying he brought someone up to his hotel room. They say Evans went up and asked if he could join in and she gave consent. A disgusting thing that seems extremely common in football.

Still feel Tyson did his time and was entitled to go back to boxing.

IMO he did his time but no club will take him on after the backlash Sheff Utd got
I suppose it's the overly PC world we live in that everyone is expected to be offended about everything - even if it has fuck all to do with them
I'm not 100% convinced he was guilty but a jury found him so and you have to accept that - it wouldn't be the first time some slapper has cried rape to get a few quid in compo and more from the papers - happened to Ronnie and even Johnny Evans a few years ago
The Polanski case was far worse

It's interesting, the debate around should he be allowed to play again. He's going to get slaughtered wherever he plays from fans, if it gets overturned or not. MP's are jumping in, saying he should go play in a different country, but why does that make it o.k if he did what he's been convicted of? Unless he gets his conviction overturned, he won't play in this country again, the uproar and sponsors pulling out from Wednesday shows that

Oscar Pistorious will most likely serve less time than Evans and Tyson and possibly go back to his track career. He actually killed his girlfriend. Another view point to consider.

If he did, he wouldn't be subject to the same abuse though, or if he is, it's going to be for the best part of 2 mins, rather than 90 +
He's shown remorse, genuine or not and it's been played out in public
