Surprised at the lack of love for Zola. He really was the first non-United player I became obsessed with. Really wish we'd gone for him.

As much as I hate to say it I think Shearer has to be in that top 5, the man was prolific and one of the few players I was genuinely afraid of. Complete and utter bellend though.

Great player no doubt and won a nice handful of trophies for Chelsea in an era where they were still a bit of an average team. Never competed though with some of the top strikers in terms of goals scored and obviously had very little impact in the titles races etc.

Really hard to do a top 5 as so many players are on par with each other as great players. Gun to my head this would be my top 5 based on impact ( goals, assists etc), medals, legacy.
1. Roy Keane. Probably one of the greatest Centre Mids to play for the club, was a key part of the team and captain during the clubs greatets period and instrumental in our title wins.
2. Shearer gets in due to his long standing goals record. Title winner at Blackburn when him and Chris Sutton were tearing teams apart and continued to score goals for years at Newcastle. Probably one of the most dangerous strikers I have ever seen grace the prem and he couldnt half strike a ball either.
3. Ryan Giggs. Dont have to explain that one.
4. Henry. Integral part of an Arsenal side that were dubbed the "invincibles", bit of a thorn in our side for a few years.
5. Rooney. Not going to be well received on here but he has to make it in my top 5. This is based on the prem only not Europe otherwise Scholes would push him out. -5 Winners medals - Player of the year - Prem player of the year - Goal of the season 3 times and he is 2nd in the all time goal list with 178 goals.

Behave. Just, I just, just ...
Rooney has no place in any 'Top #' list ahead of Paul Scholes.

Behave. Just, I just, just ... Rooney has no place in any 'Top #' list ahead of Paul Scholes. if you look at pure numbers... he probably would make it into a top 5. but looking at those same numbers would mean that all 5 of the top 5 would be strikers, and anybody that knows the game knows that the best 5 players to ever play in the PL were not all strikers. scholes definitely in, in my opinion. giggs too, due to the graphic someone posted the other day of his goals/assists record over his career, and in particular that bonkers year (2003/2004 IIRC).

Rooney bigger impact than Scholes? I cant agree with that, not in a million years. IMO Rooney has been consistently good and occasionally great. Like i said in my OP all the recent greats of the game all say Scholesy was the best player they played against, never heard anyone say that about Rooney
