yeah but at United you need to be good with your feet, because we don't actually have our defenders defending most of the time. Probably why Shawcross was let go.

Shawcross is a typical 'stopping' centre back. He's good at getting in the way, but beyond that he's quite one dimensional.

Yeah he's not really good enough.
I did find the rumour funny though. Because we apparently get 50% of next sale due to a clause from when they signed him, we'd be signing him for £5m in a deal technically worth £10m..lol

Wouldn't mind him if we signed him, but I'm not ready to give up on Evans just yet, and I don't think Fergie is either.

We've already got Evans and Smalling as backup to Vidic and Rio. Don't need him in my opinion. Don't really think he's that awesome.

He's a decent defender. He's improved a good deal with regular football. I'd imagine the thinking would be who will partner Smalling in the future (who is an outstanding footballer at the back) and Evans isn't doing it at the moment. But I'd agree, it's too early to give up on Evans and it is hard to come in every 3 or 4 games or so and hit top form. But he'd want to get his act together sharpish.

No thanks. Would much rather see some of youngsters given a shot before we bring back someone we let go in the first place. I think it was the right decision & just becoz Evans is in a slump at mo, am not gonna change my opinion.

If we do have that 50% of next sale, you cant go wrong payin 10m for him, because 5m for a defender of his quality is a good snap...Wouldnt be bad cover like..if he's willing to do that, that is...Give Evans another go though, we all know he has the quality, and Smalling is playing quite well,,,,All is good for now

I'd take him if the above is true. I think he's a pretty decent defender, always willing to get stuck in. The worrying thing about Evans is he seems to get muscled out of winning balls too often

The worrying thing about Evans is he seems to get muscled out of winning balls too often I could see Shawcross being the next Vidic and Smalling being the next Rio for our defence... but I still think Evans can do the job for us. I agree that Shawcross looks like he doesn't look like he gets intimidated by forwards much, but Evans is capable of that too, when he gets his head sorted.

I've been impressed with Shawcross for the past few seasons. Good solid centre half with tons of premiership experience, no fitness issues, former red too. I think he'd be an ideal signing for us this new year.
Thoughts???

Why not? Could be just as good for us as Cahill is for the Rents. If Godin isn't an option is go for Ryan.
