19/09/2015 08:00, Report by Alex Urquhart-Cannon. Interview by Mark Sullivan. SCHNEIDERLIN TO SAVOUR ST MARY'S RETURN
Having played a pivotal role in the rise of Southampton from League One to thriving in the Barclays Premier League, Morgan Schneiderlin returns to St Mary’s this weekend a Manchester United player. Here’s what the Frenchman said to MUTV ahead of his Saints reunion…
Morgan, the most pressing concern for us is Luke Shaw. Have you spoken to him and do you know how he’s doing?
Yes, I spoke to him yesterday and told him that I am behind him, his family. It will be a tough time but he’s got to stay strong. It’s easier to say than do but he’s a young lad with his head on his shoulders. He looks okay. He’s strong mentally and I’m sure he will go back and work every day to come back as soon as possible. What did you think of the messages of support for Luke from all around the footballing world – including from your old club Southampton?
It’s lovely. In those difficult moments in the football world we are one family. We all know how it is to have a big injury and how bad we feel when we are injured – even for a small amount of time such as three or four weeks. We know how it is to be out for so long, so it’s nice to see the people sending him best wishes. From Southampton, [the message] was very nice. He grew up there and was in the academy. They made him when he was young and they’re a very nice club. You spent seven years at Southampton. Will it be strange to go back there as a visiting player?
Yes, it will be strange in a way to go in the away dressing room. I’ve never seen the away dressing room! I’ll see all the people that I worked with for seven years all behind the scenes. I know all the staff there so it will be strange for me but I need to stay focused on my game and put all those things aside. I need to just work on my game and be as focused as I can, but it will be very nice to savour. Can going back to an old ground be a distraction?
It could be but I’ve never had this before. We’ll see but I think I’ve got a strong enough mentality to deal with this situation. I have some very good friends there and a good relationship with everyone. I left the club on good terms so there will be no issue in that way. Of course I will fight for Manchester United because this is my club now. I will give my best for it. Have you thought about the reception you might get from the home crowd?
We will see but I know, and I think also the fans know, that I gave my best to Southamptom. I know there have been some up and downs at the club. In the first two years after I came we went down to League One, but I left the club in the Premier League with their best [points] record in the league ever. I fought for this team with my team-mates. So we’ll see what the reception is but we parted on good terms. What have you made of Southampton's start to the season? One win, three draws and a defeat so far for them in the league…
There aren’t as many challenges as there were last season. They bought so many players and for them to gel takes a bit of time. They didn’t have the best start to the season – not as good as last year – but they are a good team. They wanted to progress in Europe, they couldn’t do it, but maybe that’s a good thing for them to just focus on the league. We already know that it’s going to be a tough game. They have very, very good players. We need to be at 100 per cent to win the game. You’re extremely well placed to tell your team-mates who to watch out for in the Southampton ranks and to give inside info. Who would you pick out as the ones to watch?
Southampton have never been one player, they have been a team. There are so many good players. Jose Fonte has been the captain and main figure in this team. In the midfield there is a very strong presence with Victor Wanyama and Steven Davis. Steven is a very, very good player and Wanyama is strong. There is Dusan Tadic and Sadio Mane, who had a very good season last year. Jay Rodriguez came back from injury and if he’s strong like he was before his injury then he’ll be a real threat. I’m sure he’ll come back to his best. There are so many good players in this team, so we need to watch out. It’s a team that will work very hard. www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2015/Sep/Morgan-Schneiderlin-talks-to-MUTV-about-his-return-to-Southampton.aspx

Thank God for that. I saw this thread bumped and for some reason assumed he was injured

21/10/2015 22:50, Report by Rich Fay SCHNEIDERLIN'S EMOTIONS MIXED AFTER UNITED ARE HELD IN MOSCOW Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin had mixed feelings following the Reds' 1-1 draw away to CSKA Moscow in the UEFA Champions League.
The summer signing from Southampton played the entire 90 minutes as Louis van Gaal's men claimed a hard-fought point in the freezing cold of Moscow. Speaking after the match, Schneiderlin told BT Sport: “It’s a bit of mixed feelings. With the game we wanted to take the three points but in the Champions League it is a marathon, not just about one game. It is difficult because we wanted to come here to win, but the most important thing was to not leave here without any points.” After falling behind to a goal from Seydou Doumbia, United stepped up to the challenge and Schneiderlin feels that if the Reds had been more creative, the match could have been won. “I think in the first half we had the better possession of the ball," the 25-year-old said. "We had good possession, but we could not create many chances. In the second half the movement was a little bit better, but maybe Moscow were a bit more tired. "We kept the ball, and we made them move a lot which meant we had more chances in the second half. We could have played a bit more direct sometimes, but we know that we can improve because we need to create a bit more.” Schneiderlin also praised the character shown by his fellow France international Anthony Martial, after the youngster headed in his fifth goal of the season, having earlier given away the penalty which resulted in CSKA taking the lead. “[Martial’s goal] changed the dynamic of the game," said Schneiderlin. "He didn’t let his head down because that [conceding a penalty] can happen to anyone. Anthony scored a great goal and after that we pushed on but we could not score the second goal which was a shame.” The draw leaves United second at the halfway stage in Champions League Group B, two points behind leaders VfL Wolfsburg who beat PSV Eindhoven 2-0 in Germany. www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2015/Oct/morgan-schneiderlin-reflects-on-cska-moscow-v-manchester-united.aspx

Still a firm believer that this guy was our best signing. Absolute monster on the pitch and yet to see him have a bad game

I too was really excited by our signing of Morgan but I think he`s being held back by van Ghoul`s boring tactics, I dont think we've seen him have any really outstanding games yet and hopefully the best is coming provided he`s allowed to play his natural game.

Also not really accurate. Im not knocking Morgan here i just have not seen the barnstorming displays he showed for the Saints yet, he`s being shackled by strict instructions though like the rest of the team.

21/12/2015 17:07, Report by Adam Marshall RED ON RED: SCHNEIDERLIN ON CANTONA Manchester United's Morgan Schneiderlin sings the praises of the first - and surely the greatest - Frenchman to wear the famous red shirt...
"The first time I saw Eric Cantona play I said: ‘Oh, that guy is elegant.’ I didn’t watch him live during the time he was at United but I watched a lot of videos. I remember my dad and uncle were very keen on him and talked about how classy he was on the pitch. I remember seeing one chip he scored [against Sunderland 19 years ago today in December 1996]. He then stood still to celebrate, just looking around the stands. "He’s a United legend because of everything he did for this club but he was so special because he had a different character. He was someone that you had to respect because of the way he was. Some people walk into a room and you say: ‘Wow, he has something special’. Eric had that – it was just inside him. Even now when he speaks and when he does an interview, you have a lot of journalists waiting for certain words or something he might say that’s different. He would say very loudly what was in his head, like that line in his press conference when he came back from his suspension – amazing! "It’s hard to say why he and United went together so well, but I think United is the biggest club in the world and he was maybe then the biggest character in the world game. I think of his charisma and the way he was and I think that’s what the English people, especially the United fans, liked very much. "He was honest, a class player and a very talented player as well. Eric finished his career when he was very young but will always be a legend at this football club." This article appeared in United Review, Saturday's official match programme.www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Features/2015/Dec/red-on-red-manchester-united-midfielder-morgan-schneiderlin-discusses-club-legend-eric-cantona.aspx
