We shot ourselves in the foot with the Sanchez deal. Every agent will be walking in expecting ridiculous money. The gravy train is open for business! There is absolutely no way Shaw would be getting that at say Spurs or Arsenal and they would've been likely destinations for him. Rooney's wages were eye watering long before Sanchez rolled into town. People are very quick to forget that as bad as Rooneys wages were it also included his commercial rights. Which is now rare among "star" players. Just a shame he wasn't a handsome man!

No, those were in addition to the basic wage we were giving him. Not quite right. His previous contract was £250k a week and he still had a year and a half remaining. He renegotiated for 4 years at £300k including his commercial rights.

don't think Shaw should be getting the contract he is receiving. but I do think we should keep hold of him.
150k gets you a game changing forward. hes 100k LB at best. once he learns how to properly defend, as good as he attacks, then give him a rise.
our wage structure is completely insane.

He renegotiated for 4 years at £300k including his commercial rights. Commercial rights are never included in the basic salary. Mainly cos they are invoiced, to the club, from a company specifically set up by the player for said commercial rights. Or from the players management company. Depending on said player

Neither contract included the commercial rights. don't think Shaw should be getting the contract he is receiving. but I do think we should keep hold of him. 150k gets you a game changing forward. hes 100k LB at best. once he learns how to properly defend, as good as he attacks, then give him a rise. our wage structure is completely insane. Aren't these just insane numbers full stop now?

We should be thankful Shaw is only getting 160 k a week. All his agent has to do is mention Rojo and he could ask for whatever he wanted.

The spotrac link contradicts the bbc link, as it has Rooney on 300k a week when he was still on 250k. And has him on 180k when he was on 250k. It also has him on 160k at Everton without mentioning the other half of his wages that United were paying.
Thats before getting into tax, etc (commercial rights would destroy your tax brackets if included as basic income, hence why it is invoiced from a different company altogether) and the ludicrous idea that Rooneys commercial rights were only worth 50k a week.

The reason I posted the spotrac link was because it says a flat 300K. Most newsies reported the exact same thing. Everywhere I read then (and now) is that the commercial rights were included. Do you have any links saying otherwise? I would rather get to the bottom of it as I have always known it as 300K including commercial rights. When you read the Forbes article it does explain that his commercial rights the year before equated to 3 million per season...50k a week. Not quite a "ludicrous idea" eh?

Being reported by ESPN that the deal has now been signed. Well deserved if true & would probably also suggest that we are done with the likes of Ashley Young starting ahead of him, baring injury.

Excellent news. Still can easily become one of the top LBs in Europe, barring another major injury.

Something also to consider. Because of the astronomical fees of players now to buy , his salary might seem excessive but how much would it cost to buy a decent left back with United added tax ?
