Suprised he's gone to Chicago rather LA Galaxy or whatever Kaka's team is called, so he'd be closer to the warm weather, more 'celebs' and his Mrs. Think Kaka's at Orlando.

I think a lot of fans are sad to see Bastian go because of the player he used to be rather than the player he was at United, I've been guilty of it myself. Imagine if we got prime Bastian Schweinsteiger, fuck that would have been awesome.
I do think there were a few glints of his old quality scattered through his time at the club, and when he first came I feel he just exuded such effortless authority and confidence at a time where United was (and still is to a lesser extent) full of meek personalities and no leadership, but that can't paper over the fact that overall he contributed very little to the club, his fitness levels were woefully poor and his wages were astronomical compared to what he could offer United.
I like the guy as a person and he was a brilliant player in his prime; a proper leader and midfield general. However he's a Bayern legend, not a United one.

I like Basti and am sad to see him go, but Rorschach is spot on. Was never able to really do it for us for a variety of reasons.
I still think he was useful to have around as a leader, and you could really see his leadership on the pitch when he did get on. Helps show the kids that the 'leadership' our captain provides is not an example to follow.

In regards to Bastian I think the real key is the fact that Bayern let him go so cheaply, £6.5 million when all add ons are included. He was a marvellous player, but he was also tired, battle weary and in need of major rest and recovery time, reality is we got a player who if he was in his pomp would never have been allowed to leave Germany and likely would not have considered it regardless of what his relationship was with LVG. We got him in cheap and paid him marvellously well.
Could he contribute to the team this season, I think yes, after this season I'd say no. Letting him go now is fair to all parties, he goes where he is fully wanted and needed and we save on wages.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has admitted he did not treat Bastian Schweinsteiger correctly earlier in the season, presumably referring to the period when he made the Germany World Cup winner train with the under-23 squad.
Mourinho said: "He is one of the players that I feel sorry because of something I did to him. Not about him as a player or whether I would have bought him or not. It is as a professional, and as a human being.
"Last thing I told him, 'I was not right with you once, now I have to be right to you'. When he asked me to leave I had to say yes. I feel sorry for the first period. He knows that. I will miss a good guy. Good influence in training. We probably need him but I had to let him go."
What would he have done differently?
"I would let him be in the squad. At the time we had too many players. Many in doubtful situation. We still had Schneiderlin and Depay. Huge squad.
"I regret. No problem for me to admit it. I told him."
