So many of our fucking players aren't good enough. If I'm being brutal and honest (like SAF was) then people like Lingard, Blind, Januzaj, Jones and Rojo are squad players at best. We need to buy some quality because our academy has been neglected this generation; yes we need to invest a lot there but this generation is mostly a lost cause. There are a couple of prospects (Lingard could be a squad player as mentioned, Januzaj could maaaaaybe kick on, Wilson has a hope, CBJ has impressed) but really right now we need to invest big in players and the academy for 10 years from now. Fucking spend another £200m on proven quality over the next 2/3 years and another £50m+ on creating the greatest fucking academy the world has ever seen, which is no less than this club deserves.

If we'd have managed to get him 5 years ago but at 35? I guess it would sell a bunch of shirts but the EPL isn't quite the same as strutting around the French league. He is having a great season though Rooney struts around the Premier League, and Zlatan is a much better dancer Hell of an analogy

This team isn't playing for each other at all.

Only way is if we buy out reminder of his contract. Filthy expensive but worth it but Woody won't. He hasn't the balls to even let VG go with Jose available.

Players flocked to Russia for the easy dough but many returned to main stream leagues a year later. Potato won't survive a month in China. Would love to be proved wrong though. MLS or wage subsidized move to blue scouse are the only 2 realistic options imo.

Can't see him going to China. He's just had his 3rd child and I can't see why he would want to raise them there. MLS a better proposition.

Everyone saying a China move definitely won't happen is forgetting who Rooney listens to ... and how big of a cut Stretford gets from his golden albatross.

One of the biggest problems at the moment is the total lack of leadership on the pitch. There's no doubt that Rooney is popular with his mates in the team but a leader? Not a chance. His idea of leadership is constantly shouting and whining at the referee at every opportunity, I don't really see him do much else.
The only other person in the team offering leadership is Bastian Schweinsteiger. Undoubtedly a great captain and leader but a large portion of that was cultivated over time with Bayern Munich, I doubt he wants to come into a new club and then start throwing his weight around to a load of players he's not even known for one season, not to mention him not being the official captain and as such not wanting to step on Rooney's toes (wish he would though).
The thing this squad needs is a leader in defence. We've always had one; Edwards (albeit more commonly in midfield), Foulkes, McGrath, Bruce, Stam, Ferdinand and Vidic. All players who would command and organise the defence, keep heads up, keep people in place and lead by example. As much as Smalling has really come on as a player this season, he's not a leader in the slightest. And his regular partner? Likeable little Daley Blind. At right and left back there's usually either youngsters or a poorly converted winger, the exception being Darmian (who has often gone off the boil) which makes the need for leadership even more pressing. Even if Rooney was a great captain, there'd be only so much he can do to organise and lead the defence from a forward position.
Some of us thought Evans could step up when Ferdinand and Vidic moved on but the responsibility clearly broke him. Others thought maybe Phil Jones but endless injuries and poor concentration and decision-making have made him not much more than a squad player. The U-21 captain Tom Thorpe was moved on without a chance. You'd think maybe Carrick could chip-in as vice captain but he has never been a vocal player and never been a particularly big or charismatic character. The manager is clearly failing to get the squad motivated and confident before and after games but during, the combination of a total lack of leadership on the pitch and a total lack of leadership from the bench means there's such poor organisation, the squad are so easily rattled and crack at the first sign of pressure.
We need a centre back who can come in and say to the players "Calm the fuck down, get in position, do your fucking jobs and we can win this". That and a new manager of course.
As for who that defender (or defenders) could be, I'm not sure. Perhaps others could suggest some?
A defender, a striker and a couple of wingers.

The Zlat doesn't actually have an age. He looked fine against the Rents and he absolutely gave us the run-around in preseason. He's hyper fit.
