Diego Godin is THE man.. That equalizer against Barca at Camp Nou to clinch title will never be forgotten. 2nd half after scoring the header, he went into beast mode repelling wave after wave of attacks.

Best centre back in the world. No arguments there. Sadly, if Simeone moves to renters, he is highly likely to follow.

One of the biggest problems at the moment is the total lack of leadership on the pitch. There's no doubt that Rooney is popular with his mates in the team but a leader? Not a chance. His idea of leadership is constantly shouting and whining at the referee at every opportunity, I don't really see him do much else. The only other person in the team offering leadership is Bastian Schweinsteiger. Undoubtedly a great captain and leader but a large portion of that was cultivated over time with Bayern Munich, I doubt he wants to come into a new club and then start throwing his weight around to a load of players he's not even known for one season, not to mention him not being the official captain and as such not wanting to step on Rooney's toes (wish he would though). The thing this squad needs is a leader in defence. We've always had one; Edwards (albeit more commonly in midfield), Foulkes, McGrath, Bruce, Stam, Ferdinand and Vidic. All players who would command and organise the defence, keep heads up, keep people in place and lead by example. As much as Smalling has really come on as a player this season, he's not a leader in the slightest. And his regular partner? Likeable little Daley Blind. At right and left back there's usually either youngsters or a poorly converted winger, the exception being Darmian (who has often gone off the boil) which makes the need for leadership even more pressing. Even if Rooney was a great captain, there'd be only so much he can do to organise and lead the defence from a forward position. Some of us thought Evans could step up when Ferdinand and Vidic moved on but the responsibility clearly broke him. Others thought maybe Phil Jones but endless injuries and poor concentration and decision-making have made him not much more than a squad player. The U-21 captain Tom Thorpe was moved on without a chance. You'd think maybe Carrick could chip-in as vice captain but he has never been a vocal player and never been a particularly big or charismatic character. The manager is clearly failing to get the squad motivated and confident before and after games but during, the combination of a total lack of leadership on the pitch and a total lack of leadership from the bench means there's such poor organisation, the squad are so easily rattled and crack at the first sign of pressure. We need a centre back who can come in and say to the players "Calm the fuck down, get in position, do your fucking jobs and we can win this". That and a new manager of course. As for who that defender (or defenders) could be, I'm not sure. Perhaps others could suggest some? A defender, a striker and a couple of wingers. I wanted to highlight this sentence (above): Thorpe was not only captain, but also captain of the champions. And he didn't even get a sniff of first team football. There must have been some behind the scenes shenanigans no one wanted to talk about. Reminds me of how Jonathan Harkes was axed right before the World Cup (he was USA captain and best player but was caught boning teammate Eric Wynalda's wife), and Steve Simpson at the time just said it was for team chemistry or something. Years late we found out the truth. If Thorpe hasn't killed someone or fiddled a schoolgirl or said nice things about Jamie Carragher, this will surely rate as a colossal fuckup. Maybe we'll find out in time. Also, we need a defender, a striker, and a couple wingers? We're also going to need a new goalie when De Gea fucks off to Madrid in the summer, and it doesn't look like Schneiderlin is going to be able to replicate his Southampton dominance, so we need a new holding mid. Basically we need a whole new team.

The Zlat doesn't actually have an age. He looked fine against the Rents and he absolutely gave us the run-around in preseason. He's hyper fit. he's got some voodoo in them tattoos

Basically we need a whole new team. He's 23 and plays for Rotherham, and has managed 7 appearances this season for them (don't know if this is due to injury or not in fairness). But based on that I'm guessing this is less a "Pogba style" fuck up, and more of a "Cathcart style" yeah you're shit situation. I'm not overly worried about Thorpe biting us on the arse in years to come.

Tom Thorpe's only flaw was he chose the wrong foot to kick a football.. Wasn't it obvious LVG's left-right fetish put paid to his chances and Blackett, who many thought wasn't ready fast tracked?

Okay, I'm just going to say it. I want us to re-sign Ronaldo.
I just watched the video of him scoring against us in the European Cup in that last 16 second leg; the sense of genuine pain it caused him to do it reminds me we could do with an arch winner who demands perfection and truly loves United in our team as much as on the sideline.

Has a nice Cold War one-upmanship feel to it. Can you imagine three realistic signings better placed to make us instantly credible again than Mourinho, Ronaldo, and Zlatan?

Wasn't it 2nd round? IIRC Real got an easy draw after that cunt Cunyet muggd us. I also won a decent wad of cash on Ronaldo scoring. Did a signup offer on him 10/1 anytime then stuck a quid on us winning just to make sure I wasn't betting against us. Haven't bet on a United match since.

I'd rather just Ronaldo; if we got both Martial would be forced onto the bench most likely.
