I didn't base my opinion on Vance on the Rogan pod, Red - he's done a bunch of interviews, so has made himself more accessible even in very hostile settings. The constant "othering" of everyone who holds anything other than pro-Harris sentiment as some sort of band of idiots / racists / Trump stans is so tired. It has also resulted in Dems losing elections. Love being part of the "Usual Suspects", though, and happy to present alternative views. I've long since stopped feeling insecure about the opinions I share on a Manchester United football forum, especially as it relates to foreign politics of a country where I'm not even a voter. Daily reminder: It is in fact possible to think Trump is a total idiot, whilst not automatically thinking Harris is the best candidate either - RFK, Tulsi Gabbard (potential future POTUS in my view), Nicole Shanahan, Vivek, Elon, these people (almost all of which were lifelong Democrats) all have their own followers who will have their own motivations to vote for Trump because he has committed to forwarding their various interests. With Harris & Waltz, you seem to be getting an entourage of celebrities, Mark Cuban and Liz Cheney. I was a huge fan of Obama, great orator and statesman - neither of the current candidates really compare, but the current Democratic party is similarly unrecognizable. If Trump could answer the fucking question on the odd occasion I might warm to him but he's incapable of explaining anything he really wants to do. I don't really think it matters who wins in Tuesday unless America gets control of its deficit before it tanks the whole world economy.

I think this all forms part of the end of the US-led world order, especially in light of the emergence of BRICS + China's hard and soft power in particular. Worth a watch.

That does seem to be pretty far out, and unless there is some data to suggest Ivy league schools in some way favour DEI candidates as minorties then probably off the mark. It looks like his flaws relate to his ideologically conservative values and opinions, as opposed to his intelligence or competency. If Vance and Waltz were running for POTUS, I honestly think it would be a landslide. I'm so curious to see the results this week, it really looks so tight and could go either way. There isn’t any data to back up his statement because he pulled it out of his arse.

He’s running for literally one reason- to stay out of jail.

Would love to see/hear why you think Vance is a nut, Rustin? Other than the interviews I've seen and the fact he wrote a book I don't know much else. What I had read about him, before watching him in the debate with Waltz, didn't really align. Suppose it's totally acceptable to be fine with Waltz as VP, but the debate made him look totally out his depth. He refuses to admit Trump lost in 2020, even though back then he was a never Trump guy (describing him as potentially "America's Hitler"). He railed against any adult woman who doesn't have a child, and he said Democrats are racist if they don't drink Mountain Dew. Those are the ones that stuck out to me, but there's probably more. So at best he's a coward for the Trump stuff, but I personally think he's a nut.
The thing is, about half the Republican party, if not more, have gone off that deep end and just say strange, offensive things for fun. Our Conservative party in the UK by comparison are, IMO, at the worst they have been for a very long time, and yet are nowhere near that level.

This came up the other day when I was talking to a family member about Trump and saying how can you take the U.S seriously as a country if he gets back in. They said "well we can't really talk because we had Boris". I've hated this most recent iteration of the Conservatives and consider Boris to be a deceitful, bumbling idiot but the worst version of him and the party is not even 10% as hateful and dangerous as Trump and his lot.

I can't quite believe there's a chance Ron Paul might finally play a role in government.
Through the looking glass shit, is this real life?

Fire and Fury – The Podcast on Podbean www.podbean.com/pa/dir-gj7nq-30456bI've just started listening to this. Some interesting stuff! In the first episode, they are saying it's pretty much impossible to send Trump to jail. He would have to have his own prison! Pablo Trump 😂 I've only just started episode two and it is the subject of Melania and her whereabouts during the trial and campaign.

The othering of people willing to endorse a total scumbag like Trump is something I'm more than happy to do. Consider it a moral obligation. Nobody who's supporting the likes of him should complain about being called an idiot or a bigot. He wears those qualities like a badge of honor. With Harris and Walz we have a proven body of work done by people who have devoted their lives to public service. A record of putting their country and constituents above their own personal interests. Above and beyond all that, a record of being decent human beings. Not sure what your point is re celebrities, Trump has been using music without permission of any of the artists, and used a deepfake of Taylor Swift. Man would love celebrity endorsements but he's only able to muster up Hollywood Hulk Hogan and Kid Rock I will eat a shoe if Tulsi Gabbard wins a presidential election on a Republican ticket. North Korea would probably become a democracy and open its borders before the most woman-hating political entity in America decides to get behind one for POTUS.

Someone's feelings are going to get hurt today and I'm here for it. It won't be the end of the world or people's freedoms like the fear mongering that's being put out ad nauseam.
The only thing I want to see is Ted Cruz lose. I hate all politicians in general, I hold a special hatred for him.

However, if you haven’t, I’d strongly suggest you do some quick research into the impact of Autarky as economic policy.
