Smalling has been our best defender this season. Jones always has a game like yesterday to remind us of how gormless he is. Bailly should be starting ahead of him but his form since returning from injury has been questionable to say the least. Rojo is a squad player , Christ knows with Lindelof, he should be starting ahead of Jones and Rojo mind.

And Lindelof has been tragic for us. Mostly yes, but he can still improve unlike Jones, Smalling or Rojo. I'll give him another season before drawing a conclusion. Was this forum active when we signed Vidic ? Good heavens it must have been a bloodbath after his first season here.

Lindelof has been good enough so far (bar the horror against Huddersfield). Defenders struggle initially when they come to England, the physicality is unlike anything they’ve experienced before. He’s still very young too, miles away from his prime. And if you watched any of Varane’s previous seasons you’ll have seen him make some horrendous mistakes for Madrid.

Just on lindelof he's the only 1 who looks like a defender to me out of our bunch of CBS, I think he just needs the time to adapt and grow as a player. Wether that happens is another thing tho

Lindelof has improved, others have regressed so think we have bigger issues than Lindelof 2bh.
Over the last few months of the season hes been better than Bailly and Jones so I'll give the lad credit where it's due.
If I'm being honest other than Smalling, Valencia or Lindelof it wouldnt bother me if we replaced any of our other defenders.

I said it during the match yesterday- the Rents pressed us up to the point where we passed it out to the full backs. Then they stopped and got ready to defend their box, safe in the knowledge that neither Young or Valencia posed the slightest bit of danger to them. It was obvious after 20 minutes this was a tactic. If we buy a decent attacking full back like Sandro at least he’d have to be respected by the opposition. Been like that for years. Valencia is a strange one, because he works so hard and is a top guy, but totally limited, rarely tales on a man now, unless it's against inferior opposition and rarely assists and is limited in defence and positioning. He is just athletic. We need a RB as much as a LB. Shaw could do it on the left, but he won't back him. A really good right sided attacker and a RB would be a huge deal for that team! An improvement on both sides would be massive

People expect instant success, was exactly the same with Dave. They're were annihilating him after the first season, thay soon changed. Always the same with some players.

I think after this summer Lindelof should be our third choice (though still getting plenty of time) behind Bailly and someone new. I see Lindelof-Bailly as a great long-term partnership, but they aren't ready yet and we need to challenge now.

Its ok, he can do the same next season in the champions lea...oh wait. Let's not start rebutting a team with silverware by saying "yeah but we're in the Champions League!" It's very Arsenal-esque. There are enough sticks to beat Morata with anyway. Mainly that he's shit.

We are the best Arsenal EDIT - that last part was a joke btw in case anybody thinks otherwise.

What's "I'm going to watch the World Cup on the telly while Iago Aspas travels to Russia" in Spanish?

I’m fine if people want to give him another season to settle in but we can’t gloss over that 1st season. He’s been exposed numerous times, his awareness has been poor and he’s made mistakes. There is nothing there that suggests he’ll turn into a world class defender but sure he’ll get another season to prove people wrong.
