Just read the match report on Sky Sports, apparently we were 'timid' and ' didn't register a shot on target' for the whole game.
Fantastic. Is that true? Even if we played the youth team I'd expect at least one on target?

One shot which wasn't on target, throughout the whole game.
Wonder who he blames in the post match presser for that??
Shameful.

Just watched the highlights of Fred. That young man has sublime quick feet and a fantastic first touch.
My question is this ... is he being coached to pass sideways and backwards? Multiple times he seemed ready to dribble forward and then just stopped and laid off a simple pass.
I know we like to complain about the lack of attack but damn. It looked like he was thinking about the sideways pass instead of dribbling into the forward space.

Worth noting, that Bayern had pretty much their full strength team out there. I mean, with Pogba, Matic, Lukaku, Lingard missing, couldn't expect much else. Nobody should be reading anything into this.
The only thing worth taking note of here, was where our midfield stands in comparison to a real world class midfield. Pereira just isn't on a consistently world class level yet and Herrera just sadly can't cut it either. If by our standards of luck, something happens to Matic and Pogba, this midfield will not take us anywhere.

The entire preseason has been sponsored by Lingard’s agent.
Anything approaching quick, incisive, creative football in the final third comes from him. He could ask for any wage and we’d have to give it to him, he’s become that important.

I see signs of that from deeper positions in Fred, looking forward to seeing them link up in the same starting XI.

Also, can we end the theory Rashford is a centre forward? He just isn't effective there. He's a winger who can finish.

And I really didn’t rate him.

You'd expect us to play with 3 in midfield more often than not with the signing of Fred, so that really means Lingard's most likely position is the right.
Unless we throw him into the mix on the left, cos we are lacking there.

It's hard to do that though if we're going to play a 4-3-3. Unless we play 3-5-2. But then the person who plays off Lukaku in that formation certainly won't be Lingard, it'll be Sanchez.
It's a bit of a conundrum. Everyone seems to agree that the signing of Fred means we can play a 3 in midfield to finally unlock Pogba. But in doing that we're taking away the position of one of our most effective outfield players last season in Lingard.
