The 3 in midfield is the right call. Not just for our players, but also in terms of the current trends in world football. Very few teams can hold their own in big games at the moment with a 2 in midfield, and most of those that do then play 3 at the back, which probably suits us even less. A two man midfield will usually get overrun.
Jesse's minutes will probably come mostly from the right, or maybe as a #10 in games against smaller teams (particularly at home) where the holding man in the 3 may not be necessary.

It’d be just like us to not play him in his best position, which is just behind the striker. It's hard to do that though if we're going to play a 4-3-3. Unless we play 3-5-2. But then the person who plays off Lukaku in that formation certainly won't be Lingard, it'll be Sanchez.
It's a bit of a conundrum. Everyone seems to agree that the signing of Fred means we can play a 3 in midfield to finally unlock Pogba. But in doing that we're taking away the position of one of our most effective outfield players last season in Lingard.
Lukaku showed in the World Cup he can be part of a fluid, interchangeable front 3. With Sanchez and Lingard he can do it for us.

Just to reiterate, Citeh started with 6 teenagers and beat Bayern Munich...
We are so far off the pace, it is frightening...

He's sucking the life and creativity out of the side. The quicker they refuse to play for him the easier it will be.

I was kind of alluding to that...I don't for one minute blame the players but imagine what Guardiola could have done with our team / squad... That's where we are off the pace...Jose and his antediluvian tactics...

Just watched the highlights of Fred. That young man has sublime quick feet and a fantastic first touch. My question is this ... is he being coached to pass sideways and backwards? Multiple times he seemed ready to dribble forward and then just stopped and laid off a simple pass. I know we like to complain about the lack of attack but damn. It looked like he was thinking about the sideways pass instead of dribbling into the forward space. I'm sorry but I'm not buying the being taught to pass sidewards and backwards either. You don't get 2nd by being completely shite.

So what happened to the other swashbuckling teams behind us? The point is we came 2nd regardless of how we did it. The idea that players are being coached to play sidewards and backwards is nonsense regardless.

Finished 2nd. How I dont know. League position is papering over cracks. NINETEEN points behind, had we not played so defensive you could have cut that in half or more.
Got knocked out of the champions league in embarrassing fashion thanks to the managers game plans. Folded playing defensive football.
Crumbled in the fa cup final because of yet more negative fucking tactics.
Quite often last season we were passing backwards or sideways. Again down to shit tactics.

Most of us are fronting up to the failings of ourselves.

LVG coached the side to keep the ball and staying in positions. Jose coaches them to not lose and to defend. its not nonsense. coaches have styles and methods of coaching. when we attack our players are all stood looking clueless not knowing where each other should be. compare that to peps, klopps and even wengers teams they all knew each others movements and knew if they pop a ball off round the corner without lookin they know someone will be there.
