Fair enough. Very few old school wingers that cross well around. KDB is the best crosser in England but he’s a CAM. It’s why attacking full backs are so important and Shaw’s re-emergence is vital. Depending on how the Fulham kid gets on I’d target him to have in tandem with Shaw. His crossing should improve. I really hope Dalot impresses too, we've had nothing worth mentioning on the right for years either Apparently Dalot played pretty well, at least from an attacking point of view) for the U 23s the other night...I only saw one cross in the highlights but at least it was a good one...if he gets a chance and delivers them consistently then Lukaku will eat them up...

Mendy puts in nauseatingly good deliveries as well.

Hoping to god he can take a corner as well. At some point this century I would like to see a corner from us that can beat the first man. Did enjoy the Gomes goal and how that corner was worked as well.

Dalot is extremely highly rated and should turn out to be an excellent signing. TFM is tearing the shit out of it for Fulham presently too.

Apart from youtube (no player should be rated solely by this) I haven't seen anything of him other than the u23 game so will reserve judgement until I've seen more of him. Frok what I did see he has plenty of pace and can clearly cross a ball so its looking positive.

Both should be edging into the first team this season. No doubt. He showed enough composure in the preseason to at least get a look in. But that would have worked against getting Toby A. One more body for Ed to point to as a road block for acquiring yet another CB.

Adding goals from other competitions is padding a strikers stats? How’d you work that one out exactly? Because we’ve no chance of winning them? Best knock Salah’s league goals off his total last year so. Do the same for Hazard in the Champion’s league as well. You don’t care about the League Cup or the FA Cup? How long have you supported Utd again? He needs to score more league goals. Everyone agrees. The rest is just noise. Really, Stewart? That’s what you got out of what I wrote? I especially love the “how long have you supported United” bit. I’ll never be a Top Red like you I guess. Have you ever thought of taking a break from RoM for a few days? You sound like you could use the rest. What's happened here is your core point that Lukaku needs to score more League goals has been overshadowed by the (poorly worded?) nonsense suggesting Cups don't matter unless we win then. Or something.

Or something. That is a stark stat though ... 22 league games with no goals. Hard to earn points like a truly World Class CF - see Van Persie - when more than half the season returns 0 goals. Hopefully that composure comes soon. 25-28 years old is when they usually start to show it.

On the padded stats, it's a fair point if someone knocks in 10 goals in the cups against, say, Charlton, Shrewsbury, Yeovil and Exeter.
Yes you can only score against the teams in front of you, but if your 25 goal season is only 15 in the league and 10 against those 4, then have you really had a good season?
In the cups last season, Lukaku scored against Real Madrid, Basel, CSKA Moscow (H & A), Derby, Yeovil, Huddersfield, Sevilla, and Brighton. So only really 2 of his 27 goals were "stat padding" (the two against lower league Derby and Yeovil). The remaining 25 were all either scored against Premier League or Champions League opposition.
But he does need to improve his lethality. He spurns too many decent chances to be top drawer, and fails to really make a difference in the big games. Other than Chelsea at home I can't really think of a big game last season he turned for us.
It's 3 so far this season, so good start, but he needs to be looking at 25 league goals this season for me. Yes, it's a big ask, Andy Cole's best ever league return for United was 19, and I know the insane scoring of Ronaldo and Messi has changed the landscape, suddenly people are thinking if a striker can't score 40+ a season then they've been poor; but if we are to challenge in the league, as well as other players stepping up and hitting 15+ themselves, we need someone to really bang them in, and he's the most obvious candidate.

Don't forget last season for Lukaku was playing in a mostly defensive set up and his service could have been better, so far this season we look a bit more adventurous but that could change.

The squad we have right now is more than capable of winning the league.
Its down to how it's being utilised. Square pegs don't fit in round holes.
Our last two games have shown glimpses of him improving certain things, mainly the passion. Won't lie these last two games I've actually shown a bit of support for him, especially after being hounded by the media and the way he's reacted to it.
Question is how long will it last if at all?

A decent point clouded by utter nonsense dressed up as some sort of intellectual musing about the relevance of goals from various competitions. A need to show off unnecessarily. Tertiary? Really? Maybe you’re right, maybe I should take a break for a few days. God knows, I could do with reading less nonsense from you. However, I’d miss stufff from decent posters on here, people who know what they are talking about. Who would never dream of saying ‘I really don’t care about the FA or League Cup.’ BTW- call me a Top Red again and its you who’ll be taking a break from RoM. A permanent one.
