This thread has really gone in several directions Pretty much exactly how I expected. A few people complain and rightly so. Mods don't apologise or say they'll change anything, instead say we need thicker skin and to take complaints higher up the food chain. Some people have decided to leave and this forum is a few weeks closer to its inevitable death. Shame too. |

I see the irony of him looking for his ban (which wasn't likely to happen) to be suspended, so he can get me and others banned, is lost amongst most. Especially when he is one of the snidest ones on here. Pot. Kettle. Black. I've been here nearly 9 years now (with Chris, Stew and Bestie amongst others, even longer) and the forum is still going. I doubt it will end cos/if some of ye decide to leave. And Monty, i think you will find Caaj chased away more newbies than i ever have. |

I used to guest in for a few years before that as I skimmed the transfer rumours. The place is getting less and less active. As over dramatic as I was in the post before, the message rings the same. We keep chasing people away and with fewer newbies joining, there will literally be very few of us left. More newbies left cos they were pounced on to introduce themselves, than for being insulted. The forum was a little quiet but generally ran fine in the past. The only time the mods were usually called in was to get rid of spammers. And i know that cos i used to be the one messaging them to ask them to sort it. Only when things picked up a bit that shit went south..... |

I'm relatively new compared to the other members here. I love United so this is my quick getaway from work to read views from the passionate supporters on here, engage in some arguments, make some points and end of. If someone disagrees with my points then so be it. I do agree though that some users need thicker skin. Its banter and debate at the end of the day. No one should post on here expecting that everyone will agree with their point of view. I've raised some crazy points and arguments on here for a newbie re: Ronaldo not a United legend, David Gill - Glazer puppet in his last years, which have been attacked! Healthy debate and arguments are a good thing.
I think part of the problem with attracting new users is the fact the Club seems to be in disarray and not living up to past standards. Its easy to post and be engaged with the Club during good times. I believe someone mentioned that 2008 the place was buzzing, well for good reason that year. For some others though, they turn off and disengage during bad times, which appears to the case.

It's the way of professional sports. You can also add reddit, Twitter and a variety of other reasons as to why traffic is bad. Most forums I was apart of in the 20 years since internet came to the island are either dead or dying because there are so many other mediums. I'm sure our style of play and recent results hasn't helped the mood here either. But hey, we will just keep going on as per the course and see what happens. |

All I remmeber is he made a comment about Fergie and Mourinho that was out of line but if there was anything else I must have missed it. I mean how do these newbies know where to go now to post their introductions  Now they just have to post aimlessly until SET or Bestie tells them how clueless they are. I don't try to scare anyone away. If that happens it's unfortunate. |

Honestly, and this is really all I have time to contribute to this thread right now, people need to develop thicker skin.
It's logical that personal insults against people that have been keeping this place running for over a decade will lead to a different set of consequences. There's a reason an Admin is highlighted in red.
I for one don't really care if someone disagrees with me, in two hours I'll have forgotten because life comes at you fast and there are more important things than my isolated echo-chamber of a mind. Certain mods react differently to others, which is only human.
There is a definite hive-mind on here, as with all football forums. This is true because, as alluded to somewhere in the malaise of opinions above, the tribalistic nature of football is bound to emerge on a forum whereupon football is the primary topic of conversation, even if we're all supporting the same team. Where is the animosity/frustration being built up supposed to be directed? This is particularly true in light of United's current position and, case in point, you don't see major emotive flare-ups in the TV thread (e.g.).
The idea that regular posters are leaving by their droves is bit of a fallacy. People have left over time for ages, for varying reasons - not least because people get older, get busy, or find other ways to spend their time beyond watching football and all the other inevitabilities of life which would take up another two pages here. Alternatively, they simply enjoy watching the game at some point without the need to convince everyone of their opinion.
There are still people joining, the fact that more than 570 people have been online reading in the past 24 hours is testament to the interest in what is being said.

Dek, you called me a tosser as well as other niggly things and it was at the wrong time to do so with me having some shit personal times, at that time. We all have a breaking point and you happened to get there. In retrospect, a month was too long. Couple of weeks would have sufficed.
I'm going to say this and apologise to the staff members as I haven't addressed them with this, which I had been planning on doing. I agree with some of your remarks.
Other than the Dek thing, it is extremely rare that I fall out with anyone, as I'm sure you'll all agree. It seems to happen every week with at least one of our staff members.
I'm going to have a word so we can get this place back on track. One of my gripes is why so many new members leave. This MUST be addressed.
With that being said though, we run this place for free and it's not easy at times and we don't deserve to be abused for it. Nobody should have abused for opinions. Its a simple board about a football team we all love, so let's get back to talking about it.
As always, if anybody wants to discuss things with me, drop me a line.
Oh and I saw a comment about people leaving and us not saying anything. Brilliant posters have come and gone in the past and the board carries on. If you want to go, then go. Simple as! Come back anytime. No biggie at all. Don't expect us to beg and plead though. That's all.
Thread will be closed in 24 hours so staff can work on these changes.
