Some simple rules to try and post by.
1 - Be confident to post your opinion, don't feel like you have to keep quiet, or agree with the common opinion just to keep the peace. If you think something, say it.
2 - If you disagree with someone's opinion try to be respectful.
3 - As a carry on from 2, don't be a cunt. Don't personally abuse someone just because they don't rate Lukaku, do rate Mourinho, etc. Likewise, don't be a cunt if someone disagree's with you. Big whoop, move on.
4 - If someone is annoying you, block them. The option is there for a reason.
5 - Live and let live. Be grown ups, we've all posted full of drink, or after a seriously bad result, or after an argument with our significant other. If you've done that and ended up in a row, log off, chill, come back and move on.

If you've done that and ended up in a row, log off, chill, come back and move on. I've kept out of this debate save for the post I put on another thread... This should be a place here we can come and express our views / opinions etc. without being pilloried for it... The bolded bit is what it is all about; RESPECT... You can have all kinds of disagreements if you treat each other with some respect...if you do that then it doesn't descend into name calling and other personal abuse... In that way, we will stop chasing off newbies, who I can imagine get intimidated by some of the replies they get to their early posts... More seasoned posters tend to develop a thicker skin but sometimes it feels like there is a bit of a mob mentality when someone expresses an opinion that is a bit left field or doesn't fit with the mainstream opinion... Again, a respectful disagreement is far better than a flaming...

Honestly, and this is really all I have time to contribute to this thread right now, people need to develop thicker skin. It's logical that personal insults against people that have been keeping this place running for over a decade will lead to a different set of consequences. There's a reason an Admin is highlighted in red. I for one don't really care if someone disagrees with me, in two hours I'll have forgotten because life comes at you fast and there are more important things than my isolated echo-chamber of a mind. Certain mods react differently to others, which is only human. There is a definite hive-mind on here, as with all football forums. This is true because, as alluded to somewhere in the malaise of opinions above, the tribalistic nature of football is bound to emerge on a forum whereupon football is the primary topic of conversation, even if we're all supporting the same team. Where is the animosity/frustration being built up supposed to be directed? This is particularly true in light of United's current position and, case in point, you don't see major emotive flare-ups in the TV thread (e.g.). The idea that regular posters are leaving by their droves is bit of a fallacy. People have left over time for ages, for varying reasons - not least because people get older, get busy, or find other ways to spend their time beyond watching football and all the other inevitability of life which would take up another two pages here. Alternatively, they simply enjoy watching the game at some point without the need to convince everyone of their opinion. There are still people joining, the fact that more than 570 people have been online reading in the past 24 hours is testament to the interest in what is being said. Jay, I agree with pretty much everything you have said and there have now been 581 GUESTS in the last 24 hours...my question is, why don't more of them join and express their opinions? Is it because of the occasional hostile reception that greets certain opinions? Established boards can be intimidating places to join and it would be helpful if we could find a way to be more welcoming to newbies... Or maybe they should all develop a thick skin?

I literally observed from a distance for 2 years before joining in, it may be a question of it being an intimidating arena to post your opinion - it certainly was for me.
I mean, seeing people with 5000 - 15 000 posts can be really intimidating, that's how I perceived it.
My point was that the peak statistic posted on page 2 of this thread set the highest online total users at 273 in 2008, a month before our best side in a decade would lift the European Cup and United were flying.
Those 273 USERS included staff, members and guests.
Look, I've not really developed any major feuds on here, whilst I think I've kicked two people out in my entire time on here. There really are very few people getting banned on here, with platform-ostracism being the most common reprimand.
A good middle-ground for all involved would be to simply stop responding to people who disagree with your opinion. Granted, this would result in hundreds of monologues across all the threads but at least everyone will sleep easy at night knowing all is well in the World (on RoM).

Dek, you called me a tosser as well as other niggly things and it was at the wrong time to do so with me having some shit personal times, at that time. We all have a breaking point and you happened to get there. In retrospect, a month was too long. Couple of weeks would have sufficed. I'm going to say this and apologise to the staff members as I haven't addressed them with this, which I had been planning on doing. I agree with some of your remarks. Other than the Dek thing, it is extremely rare that I fall out with anyone, as I'm sure you'll all agree. It seems to happen every week with at least one of our staff members. I'm going to have a word so we can get this place back on track. One of my gripes is why so many new members leave. This MUST be addressed. With that being said though, we run this place for free and it's not easy at times and we don't deserve to be abused for it. Nobody should have abused for opinions. Its a simple board about a football team we all love, so let's get back to talking about it. As always, if anybody wants to discuss things with me, drop me a line. Oh and I saw a comment about people leaving and us not saying anything. Brilliant posters have come and gone in the past and the board carries on. If you want to go, then go. Simple as! Come back anytime. No biggie at all. Don't expect us to beg and plead though. That's all. Thread will be closed in 24 hours so staff can work on these changes. Thanks guys.
Case and point I had left the forum many years ago due to doing other things then came back 7 or so years ago, 6 years ago I was made a mod because I'm super great

Probably would have been more of an embarrassment to myself if anything

Pineapple is rank. Sweet and savoury don't go- I don't like sweet and sour Chinese either which is second to your particular favourite in making me want to vom. Plus I'm a vegetarian so double yuk! Don't get me started on Chicken Korma either which is curry for wimps!

Don't get me started on Chicken Korma either which is curry for wimps! Sweet and savoury together is fantastic. Pineapple and ham/cheese, bacon and jam, cheesy mushrooms and balsamic reduction, Aubergine with molasses. The perfect combinations.
