Bailly and Rashford are supposed to be part of Pogba's clique. MOTWYW Looking like world beaters one week, academy players the next? if they were involved in a clique and playing up for a manager that wanted the best for them and the club I would ship them straight out. bt I can understand why players are downing tools for jose. agree with it no. understand why, yes

The last time we hired a mid table manager who ‘punched above his weight’ the 11 points champions became a mid table club within 7 months. Does nobody remember this??? Reading this thread, it appears like people are happy to become Martin O’Neil’s Villa or Spurs FFS. We are Manchester United. We need a manager who can return us to our rightful place at the top of English football, not someone who can play some decent stuff under no pressure to win anything. Ever. Imagine the first time Eddie Howe tells Pogba something he doesn’t want to hear. Who is Woodward going to back? We need a DoF who is allowed the freedom/given the responsibility to build the football side into the embodiment of the Manchester United way. The manager becomes a vehicle to make this happen on the pitch, and any players/staff who don’t fit this style are replaced with those who do. In essence the DoF becomes the top man/woman at the club. Right now commercial interests and the ego of players run this club. Appointing a hit and hope manager with no pedigree is only going to make that worse. You've offered no example of how we would get back to the top. The people who are open to Howe (no one is really advocating) are suggesting that he would fit in to a plan and have one himself because he clearly does where he is now. Your post smells of throwing money at more Mourinho's, Pogbas and Sanchez's whether you meant it or not. I've had enough of those types at our club. Who is this manager who could magically return us to former glories and how would he do it? As I said, our rise to the top doesn’t start with a manager. It starts with a DoF and institutionalizing our commitment to play football as taught by Matt Busby. The manager and player recruitment, academy system, scouting etc all support this vision and probably need to be overhauled to be fit for purpose. Basically it’s outlining a vision and planning for its implementation. The exact opposite of chucking money at random big names who feel they’re bigger than the club. As for a manager who can come in and save us? There isn’t one because the structures need to change first.

That's the point - I'm not sure Attila the Hun could do it... Maybe Fergie in his pomp? But that's all I've got...Woodward would have to be told by the Glazers or volunteer himself to relinquish control and he won't do it himself...his ego is too big... Fergie had Gill. Honestly believe Gill as a buffer and as Fergie's man in the boardroom is the only thing that prevented this rot spreading sooner. Sadly this won't happen...unless Jose forgets about the money and...no, it won't happen... Genuinely don't think it is the money that is driving Mourinho. I think he is so stubborn and arrogant he refuses to walk because he still thinks eventually, somehow, he can prove everybody else wrong. Yeah, you could be right as he does come across as being that arrogant...but £10m-£15m is also worthy of consideration! Having said that he definitely appears to have an 'I told you so' mentality...

Howe's only chance to succeed here is if there was a strong DoF in place that would back him. The crumbling and incompetent structure at the club would destroy any chance of Howe succeeding.

I think the club's only chance of succeeding lies in us having a competent DOF who can help us in identifying and bringing in the playing and coaching talent needed to bring the pride back at the club. I am now suspicious of big name managers and big name players coming here and taking the piss, we need to start next summer at zero and if it means losing Pogba and the like so be it. We need to be ruthless but we also need to take a gamble on someone who can come in and implement a philosophy that gets the fans excited again then improve from there.

If we want to implement a philosophy then the Club and supporters will need to stomach a few more years of poor results and finishes in the league. I'm fine with it if there's light at the end of the tunnel but right now its just darkness and a big black hole with the club.

Someone who can remove the parasites without any forensic evidence being traced back to any source.
That's who should follow the manager.

I had read an Andy Mitten article on espnfc that stated Jose's contract contains a clause where his compensation is less if he's fired when it is mathematically impossible to make top 4. This long and depressing ride is likely set to go into the new year but should mercifully stop by late March or April.
