I struggle with this. Is it fair to ask the manager and coaches to improve the individual players they have? Instead of just moving them on when not up to it? But we don't move them on anyway? 4 of our defenders have been here since Fergie. One is clearly done and the other not far behind. As for the rest, one lives in the Carrington medical facility and another is clearly a kid. Its quite obvious our defence isn't good enough. It's a pity Pep wasn't told to make do isn't it ? Coaching only goes so far! Like I said, I struggle with it. Jones and more so Smalling have had their chances. Young as well. I was thinking more along the lines of the younger, potential based players. Lindelof, Bailly, Shaw etc.

Yes they were, but if they doubted the managers judgement enough to veto his transfer requests then they should’ve sacked him. I’m not giving them any credit for doing the wrong thing twice and getting lucky once. I struggle with this. Is it fair to ask the manager and coaches to improve the individual players they have? Instead of just moving them on when not up to it? I suppose that’s down to whether you believe that talent is a contributing factor to success, or if process skills can be improved to have the same effect. Can Jones and Smalling become Rio and Vidic if they studied hard and worked at their craft enough? How long would that take and is it worth the investment vs buying someone else who has the talent of a Rio/Vidic and wouldn’t require as much coaching/refining etc?!? Personally, I’d say no and replace them.
