Who’s said top 4 is a benchmark for success? No one on here. To me it seems like every season post-Fergie reached a point where the general consensus was that if we finish in the top 4 it should be considered a decent/good season, instead of being extremely vocal and outraged at our inability to challenge for the title. You’d expect that we’d treat this issue the same way Real Madrid fans do - zero tolerance and demand that whoever is in charge fix it immediately. Instead, we’re fast approaching the end of the 6th season of us not being even close to really challenging for the title. Nobody is saying top 4 is the new standard, but for this season, considering what the new manager had to come into and 11-13 points off 4th and 3rd, reaching the top 4 would be an excellent achievement. It will also help in attracting top players and reward any momentum from December It's important this year

Im a huge fan of Martial, but the reality is that if he can’t add consistency to his game within the next 2-3 seasons then he’ll be just another one in the sad statistic of players who could’ve been great but never lived up to their potential. He can still have his best goal-scoring season for us though, hopefully he wakes up soon.

Just watching the City game and thinking that as a team who have a chance to top our treble winning season, have footballing standards dropped? I can't think of a player in this City team who'd make it on our '99 team tbh, and that's trying to be as unbiased as possible. Aguero you could sub in for Yorke or Cole but they were red hot that year so you probably don't break that partnership up. KDB is world class but you don't drop prime Keane and Scholes. Sterling is red hot at the moment but do you drop prime Becks? For me, no and I have to conclude that football standards have dropped. I think the PL actually was at its height from 2004-2009, too defensive now and the top group of clubs aren't what they were imo.

For all of Liverpool ‘s jammy luck they have nothing on City.

They're a very good team Karma and I'm not being bitter, they're currently the best in the country but they don't compare to United '94,99,08, Arsenal 98,04 or Mourinho's original Chelsea juggernaut imo.

Standards have dropped all round but he hasn't been good enough for several years now.

Not that excuse, please. Watford and West Ham came to OT wearing flip-flops and still outplayed us for significant chunks of the game. I doubt Everton need to "raise their game" in order to beat that shower we saw last night. I'm not making any excuses, but if you saw that game against Fulham who are atrocious, you would argue that Everton is a gimme, but it's a tricky game, because there will be a cup final atmosphere there for us as usual! I'm just mocking them really, we still have to win it Small club mentality. They "raised their game" and beat Arsenal, showed up for their derbies for a change and will give us grief as per usual. I'm more worried about our lot if I'm honest. If they need a game against the big boys to show up it appears that we need to sack the manager to get our players going.

Martial is 23 turning 24, so the excuse of him being young won’t fly for much longer. He has to reach that level of consistency and focus where he isn’t making the types of errors he was yesterday. We don’t expect him to score every game but you can’t be a detriment to the team either.

Martial has been invisible for some time though . I must have imagined him getting that game wining penalty yesterday so. That’s like pretending Rashford has been great because he scored the penalty against PSG. Both out of form and their involvement in 2 penalties doesn’t change that.

Sell Martial as well as Rashford. So typical. As I have said many times on here some players are beyond criticism. Answer truthfully have Martial and Rashford played well over this last month or so?

We don’t expect him to score every game but you can’t be a detriment to the team either. He won the penalty that won us the game. He was literally the opposite of the detriment of the team. Also, He’s turning 24 in 8 months. 8. So he’s not turning 24, he’s 23. People are losing their minds on here lately.
