We can so exactly get ahead of ourselves. Beckenbauer was only this good in his dreams. Nice to see him getting his head on a few set pieces. Missed an actual threat from corners. For me it's not the threat at corners. It's knowing that Harry is gonna find the ball when defending the corner. That for me was a breath of fresh air. I love Lindelof but it's not a strength of his so having Harry there will be night and day from last season when defending set piece. Hopefully he will nick a few up front and all. First and foremost I care about his solidity in our own box, which was superb today, but it’s nice to see we finally have someone (since Vidic) who has to be taken seriously in theirs.

First time in my life I've heard of pre assists. Ludicrous nonsense. It is a daft term, but the point is that he was playing it quick, simple and efficient one-touch football. FWIW ice hockey counts that as an assist. Yes I know...

Great result good performance Maguire looks good AWB serious talent. Now I dont shit myself too much when we try and play out from the back. Chelsea found too much space behind Luke Shaw in the first half. I thought he had a slow start. Worryingly his only competition comes from Ashley Young. Rashford didn’t track his runner once in the first half. Neville was mentioning it constantly. It was fixed at HT and I don’t think Chelsea got anything in the 2nd half down there.

One thing I fucking loved was the team huddle after each of the first 3 goals. They were organising themselves. I remember when Zlatan had them doing that. Apparently today they were telling each other they would not concede today. McTominay was leading that shit. Hes a real future leader. As is Slabhead. Its bloody nice to watch Noticed Maguire was doing a lot of the talking in there too. Liked that a lot.

Pogba wasnt great throughout but he ended with two assists m. That lass for rashford was sensational. Pure technical brilliance. How has he even hit that. This is why we need Pogba in form. He’s a game changer

I don’t think that pass from Rashford was wayward to be honest. If he plays that at Lingard feet he’s getting tackled. Thought lingard could have done a bit better to run onto that, it was obvious where he was sticking it. I thought he did very well for both goals. Nothing flashy, but kept the ball moving instead of slowing down the attack. I thought it was obvious that a Rashford overhit the pass in the move leading to the second, and Lingard did well, albeit with a simple pass, to keep Chelsea defense on the back foot. Within a minute, a simple pass back to Pogba instead of turning and dwelling on the ball allowed that sublime pass to Rashford. It’s lovely that those little things that never translate to favorable stats are picked up. He may be a bellend off the pitch but I love having him in the squad. A true team player. Lingard's biggest problem is the lack of precision.
He is quite useful in a pressing team because he has high work rate and he is good at harassing the opponent. He is also good in counter attacks if there is a lot of space behind the defenders. In these cases usually doesn't matter much if he overshoots or undershoots the ball a little. He has quite good vision, he can deploy the teammates quite quickly or he can run with the ball with a good pace.
His weakness is more pronounced against well organized defenses. He isn't good enough with quick precise one-two passes in tight spaces.

Found this:
" In 49 minutes on Sunday, Marcus Rashford scored more Premier League goals against what would be termed elite opposition than Romelu Lukaku managed across two seasons at United."

Pre-assists aren't a thing, outside of stat twats sat In their basements who would get rid of the whole 'running around on grass' part of the sport if they had the chance. First time in my life I've heard of pre assists. Ludicrous nonsense.
Depends.
They were mentioned a lot for Carrick, you could easily look at his stats over a season and wonder what exactly he brought to the team, he'd end with something like 2 goals and 3 assists, which is awful for a midfielder. But the amount of goals scored from a lovely Carrick ball to someone, who squares it for a goal, would have been in double figures every season. Why should the bloke playing the simple 5 yard pass to someone to score get the credit for the assist but Carrick's 50 yard ball to foot gets essentially ignored?
I agree it's getting silly, because then you look at the pre-pre assists, and so on, but it is something to look at.

It seemed to me that Martial was o tge left for at least most the firat half and Rashford was centre. Maybe they were swirching a lot of losing their man.

I thought Maguire was a good if expensive signing but watching him today and even more, listening to him after the game, we may have got ourself a leader that this team has been crying out for. Only been here a matter of days but sounds more like a leader already than most at the club.

He made a last ditch tackle in the area at one point and instantly turned around and asked the players in front what the fuck they were playing at. You don't see that from Smalling and Jones, when they make a decent challenge like that they take a pat on the back and get on with the game. We really desperately need more of that.

So happy for James. Could tell it meant a lot for him and his old man.
Maguire has massively upgraded our team, there was a point where he was the last man and on the ball then he just spun his man and played it out. Jones or Smalling would have given themselves a stroke attempting it
