Getting a striker in the summer is totally dependent on the form or martial between now and the end of the season and Greenwood those hoping for one, don’t hold your breathe unless another Haaland comes on the scene and Mino is not the agent. IMO Ighalo is in dreamland and will work his socks off to make the most of this opportunity, that can only be a plus, he isn’t pants so will suit some games where martial can then be allowed to do the rashford role and float about.
The summer will be all about wingers and another Center mid I suspect, I won’t argue to much with that as we need at least 2 rw’s one of which really needs to be sancho. And we need a quality Center mid to join Fred, MCT.

I saw a comment about the signing proving we’re the laughing stock of has-beens. No doubt we are a shambles, but hey, he might surprise us and in defence of the signing, we’d potentially be worse off without him. Welcome, he’ll go out there and bust a blood-vessel for the shirt which is more than can be said for a few other twats currently in the squad.

Will he have to be in quarantine for 2 weeks when he arrives?

I get that there are few alternatives, but I'm not sure what Ighalo brings. I really have no clue. He's not even been playing in a competitive league, we wanted someone to hit the ground running, how will he ? If he does, that's great, but if not, it'll be another indictment of this fucking club's management.

He's not even been playing in a competitive league, we wanted someone to hit the ground running, how will he ? If he does, that's great, but if not, it'll be another indictment of this fucking club's management. We have a 2 week break, 2 weeks for him to train, get his fitness up IF he isn’t held in quarantine as someone asked. He brings hold up play to bring other attackers in, has pace, knows the league well and well 40 goals in 100 games for Watford isn’t too shabby so he knows where the goal is. Yes there was Cavani but he wanted to retire in Spain and who can blame him at 33 next month, add to that his agents wanted 10 mill, PSG wanted another 10 Mill and wages of £350k on a 2 year deal, the deal was never gonna happen, it could have been another Sanchez situation with the deal costing over £50 million. Mertens for 6 million and his wages at 32 was also not going to happen. King for £40 million was a joke. Any real credible talent was not going to happen or be allowed to leave in January unless the wheel barrow of cash was rolled out, we all know that wouldn’t happen. I’m as shocked as anyone but the signing ticks a few boxes so let’s just get behind him and hope he can bring some quality and help us into the top 4 and a trophy. Last but not least halaand we all know the reasons why that didn’t happen, if relations with Mino were better I suspect that deal would have been done and the clauses probably dropped somewhat but they aren’t and Dortmund have a talent that will leave them in. 6-18 months for 42-50 million of which they will likely see about £30-£35 million of the fee, for a club like them that’s ok, they know their current role etc but for us that would be shambolic on every level. It is what it is, all I hope is that come summer someone more competent at concluding a deal is brought in and we get deals done before players go away with their national teams.

Of course if we were a better run club we’d have had someone in weeks ago as soon as we knew Rashford was struggling, then we may have seen a more desirable name. As it is, we aren’t a well run club and just getting a body in the squad for 6 months will suffice. Prem proven and you know what you’ve got, won’t play that much anyway. The Rashford injury seems even more sadistic when you put it like that, were they hoping he could hop along until the summer, then jump on a plane and play for England in the Euros and then hop into a pre-season tour. This club needs to be grabbed by the neck and shaken. I'm not surprised he's considering Pogbas agent, his condition has been mismanaged and that fucker will be in his ear now. On the whole the Bruno signing has helped but the debacle with the Haaland transfer business and literally scraping the bottom of the barrel for strikers is a poor show.

We needed a striker to provide cover and we brought a striker to provide cover. I prefer that a lot more than panic buying some random-ass player.
Ighalo will most likely not blow us away - he'll be an option from the bench or an option when Martial picks up a knock. That being said, this is a player who is going to give 200% because he'll be holding on to that off-chance that we might make his signing permanent.. we definitely need players who will really fight to play for us.

You never know Ighalo might be one of those signings that works when you least expect it, but signing someone so late from the Chinese league smacks of desperation. and thats where we are these days under this club, desperate.

I really don’t think the club where thinking about England when it came to Rashford, if they were they are more lost than I could have thought. Pretty much think they listened to the player and his desire and form more than than the medics and it backfired. Probably hoped to manage the situation and give him this 2 weeks off.
It is what it is, might aswell just see how it goes and hope he is allowed to completely recover even if that means he doesn’t play again this season but is fully fit for the start of the next

Obviously we shouldn't be signing Ighalo in the sense that we should have had a plan months ago and never needed cover at the last minute in the first place.
But, as far as getting cover in on deadline day due to incompetent planning goes, it was a solid signing.

Spurs needed a striker so did chelsea both have struggled, there isn't many out there especially in Jan, clubs just ain't willing to sell unless it was for crazy money

Ighalo is also a United fan, so there will be no lack of effort on the pitch.
In fact it should spur him on to give his all.

I mean, as an alternative to Ighalo, we could’ve started looking for a striker at some point before half 5 on deadline day.

Igloo? What the actual fuck? I’m obviously living in a different time stream! I will be more than happy to post in the “proven wrong” thread if: A/ We sign him, And B/ He turns out to be an absolute goal scoring monster! Breath, not being held! Name available, gettable forwards we should have gotten for short term cover until Rashford is fit again. I'll wait, but breath not being held. Talk about an over reaction, I mean, it's expected from Mrs "Urgh, it's sunny, I hate the sun, urgh, it's raining, I hate the rain, urgh, it's windy, I hate the wind. Urgh United won, that means I can't post on that forum now, have to hide until they lose", but I had hoped others might have a bit of a footballing brain to see that 1 - Options massively limited 2 - Players hugely overpriced (should we have spent 40M+ on King instead?) 3 - Must clubs want to sell not just loan (Piacek as example) 4 - Loan move is absolutely risk free, unlike a panic signing that lumps us with someone on huge wages for the next 3 years (Sanchez turns to face you, smiles and waves) Seriously, who should United have signed, for what deal, and for how much money. Go. Harsh. There isn’t one person here who is remotely excited about this signing. Most would still agree that it’s better than paying ridiculous money for a player who isn’t remotely adequate long-term. Still, criticism of squad management is very much warranted as we should not have ended up in this mess. Ole said he was happy with the squad in the summer even though Lukaku was not replaced. Greenwood was the reason he gave, and we (well, most of us) were extremely excited. Then we found out that Greenwood was being used sparingly. You could argue that he is being used wisely considering his age, but Ole must have known his age back in the summer. Oh, and the Rashford injury. Players get injured. So one is too young to start regularly and another was played through injury and is likely to miss most of the rest of the season. That is the real clusterfuck that got us to Ighalo territory, not what happened on Jan 31st
