The Sky film about West Indian cricket n the 70s and 80s, Fire in Babylon, is tremendous. As is the Allfeck basketball movie ‘The Way Back.” Fire in Babylon is one of the greatest sports documentaries ever. The bit where they go back and muller the Aussies, after the abuse from players and fans on the previous tour, is fantastic. Holding was crying in frustration previously, absolutely bloody shreds them this time round. Wonderful stuff.

That team was the greatest cricketing team in history imo.

That team was the greatest cricketing team in history imo. They had a conveyor belt of lethal fast bowlers. Holden goes- replaced by Curty Ambrose. Garner finishing up? Along comes Courtney Walsh. Unreal.

Really saddened to hear of the death of Shane Warne yesterday, without doubt THE greatest exponent of the art of leg-spin who ever turned his arm over. I had seen that Amazon Prime have been airing ‘Shane’ for a while now, so I finally watched it yesterday. Highly recommended ,and a pretty good epitaph to him.

Not really a film this, but there’s a new two part doc on Gazza currently on iPlayer.
Everyone knows the story and it’s been pretty much told to death over the years. This one however ignores a lot of the tropes and really delves into not only his issues, but also the culture and world surrounding him at the time. There are no talking head segments, instead relying on narration from people who were there as it unfolded. Very few ex-players and nothing at all from Gazza himself which maintains the honesty and integrity of the doc. Loads of unseen footage too.
The second part really focuses on the media treatment of him. It’s funny looking at the way the press were at the time. Now print media is completely irrelevant and we’re several years post-phone hacking scandal, it’s insane to think it was ever like that. A bit like the smoking ban. Now we’re 15 years on from it, you can’t quite believe people were ever allowed to smoke in pubs, on public transport and in shopping centres. And similarly you can’t quite believe the nation hung on the every word of shit rags like the Sun and the News of the World.
Anyway, good doc, great watch especially if you were bang into football in the 90’s. Piers Morgan should be in prison.

Watched ‘King Richard’ last night with Will Smith, charting the development and rise of the phenomenal Williams’ sisters. Excellent film.

I know he’s a City fan, so probably not popular round these parts.
But the Ricky Hatton documentary on Sky Docs is very good. Well worth a watch.
