What is clear is DVB is cut from the same cloth as Mata & yet OGS seems determined to destroy the lads confidence,he'll be back on the bench with hardly a look in for the next two. The must look at the likes of McAverage & wonder how he ended up at a club, where he is clearly not wanted & getting less game time & being captained by such a player. Yeah he must look at McAverage (who was MOTM, played much better than him, scored the winning goal and has been given the opportunity to captain the team he’s been with since the age of 5) and be absolutely livid.

When compared to players like Zola, Bergkamp, Cantona and those kinds of players he doesnt really compare. Ofcourse hes had a great career but just not at that level for me. This is exactly the point. On ability Mata should be considered in that bracket. We have managed to make him an irrelevance in that company. He was a decent player in his day but I dont think he was near those players. Maybe im just missing something but I can think of half a dozen special moments from the others with little effort. We signed him past his peak.

Anybody that hates on mctominay does not understand this club. He's a vital squad player even though he's not the most talented. Plenty of hate to go around this club but Scott is not where it's at.

Scott McT reminds me a little of Darren Fletcher...not always appreciated for the job he does but rarely shines either...
As I have said, it is possible that the Leeds game was the pinnacle of his career, playing wise...he was awesome that day but I doubt he will reach that height again (hope to be proven wrong)...against Watford he was good but I wouldn't say great...
I think if we had not decided that £5m was too much for a talent like Caicedo, then he would have found himself battling with Fred for a place on the bench or in the team only when we wanted to go ultra defensive...
I expect to get shot down for this...
But all I will say is that he is a valuable squad member but for me not a nailed on starter...
There are better players out there...
...and we should be looking to get them in...

The Leeds game was a joke, anyone could have played in the acres of space they provided at times in that game. Against PSG he played really well in that holding role.

I agree- he shouldn't be a nailed on starter but he seems to have a great attitude and the ability to do a job when required- really solid squad player. You're right, he does remind me of Fletcher. Incidentally, I recently watched this vid of Fletcher talking about his role at United which perfectly captured his brilliant attitude. You need players like this in a title winning squad alongside your star men:

Just going to be crystal clear- ‘Mc Average’ absolutely isn’t going to become a thing on here.
Thanks.

I said on here last week, when we were needing to win games at the end of last season,he was largely on the bench for the last 10 games. what has changed this season because I don't see any significant change in his performances ?? The fact that he starts so many is baffling & shows how far we have fallen as a club,he falls into that Fletcher,Anderson bracket. We will not win a premier league when we have a manager putting too much faith a player of his standard,he can't even get aregular slot in the Scotland midfield.

But that’s exactly it. A good squad player. Yet regularly starts. I don't know how to break it to you, but a squad has players who start, and they're called squad players. Also, its not possible to have all 11 players be top 10 at their position. Also, if you think McTominay doesn't deserve what he's getting then you're out of your mind.
