But that’s exactly it. A good squad player. Yet regularly starts. I don't know how to break it to you, but a squad has players who start, and they're called squad players. Also, its not possible to have all 11 players be top 10 at their position. Also, if you think McTominay doesn't deserve what he's getting then you're out of your mind. You know exactly what I mean. Stop being arsey.

Yeah he must look at McAverage (who was MOTM, played much better than him, scored the winning goal and has been given the opportunity to captain the team he’s been with since the age of 5) and be absolutely livid. Regrettably this may come as bit of shock to some, but Mctominay being a regular starter at the club & Capt at the weekend, when we are really struggling to regain our status as the best club in England & Europe ...it’s not happening anytime soon, standards have fallen & he is the epitomy of far we have fallen,a squad player at best is now the managers go to man. And i repeat what i’ve said previously,he wasn’t good enough to be a regular starter in the delayed run into last season & now he plays most games & suddenly capts the side, yet as a player he is no better than last season. All about levels ,standards & expectations lads & lasses.

Some total nonsense being posted in this thread. First, Mata is nowhere near the players Bergkamp or Cantona were.
Second, nobody is saying McTominay is the second coming of Paul Scholes. In a title winning side, he’s a useful player who has rightfully earned his place in the squad. Is he (or Fred) top 20 in the world at their position? Hell no, but then Jordan Henderson is a PL and CL winning captain so...
And like someone said above, much more to yell and scream about than McTominay’s presence in the squad or his captaining of an FA Cup tie.

In 2008 average squad player John O'Shea also played 38 times. That's more than Hargreaves and Scholes did, and only 5 games fewer than Rooney. Pretty much a regular. Was he a great player? You're right that McTominay isn't a superstar and isn't the next Robson/Keane/Scholes. But lots of steady and decent players have played big roles in teams successes, not just United. McTominay is at least on the same level that Jordan Henderson was at his age, and look at what he's done the last few years. Jon Obi Mikel was shite but played a big role in a lot of Chelsea's success. Arsenal went unbeaten with Ray Parlour playing week in week out. Should we go and sign some big name for loads of money and sell McTominay? I hear Juventus have a good French midfielder, Pogba I think? Maybe go and sign him for a world record amount, that's bound to massively improve the team.

Thing is, all this is coming after McTominay was MOTM and scored the winning goal. I think we should probably be happy about someone who has been at the club since he was 5 getting chance to captain the side in a routine FA Cup tie. Especially considering who the usual captain is.
As has been said, there’s loads to be negative about. This surely isn’t one of those things.

Maybe go and sign him for a world record amount, that's bound to massively improve the team. Blomquist was a very decent player,no comparison to McT. O'Shea played a lot of games mainly condensed through a 6 year period, where he never nailed down a regular spot, but played in pretty much every spot across the back 4 & midfield,he was a more versatile version of Phil Neville& not one reliant on one spot like McT ,the season you refer to we also won the champs league & got the 1/4 of the cup,we played at least 6 more games in the champs league than we did this season. Hargreaves appearances where fairly limited at the club due to injury & fergie not liking lad,so another poor example. Anyway back to my original point,in my opinion he is not good enough to be the mainstay of any title winning midfield or capt & is not in the same class of player as DVB at club or international level. Another point I have made prior to & yesterday that you cherry picked to ignore,he was rightly benched pretty much for the entire run in last season, there has been no significantly visible upturn in his performances this season, yet he is now the managers go to man & even capt at the weekend. another example of lower standards & expectations is some actually think that being MOTM in a very poor performance at home against a championship side is some sort recognition of good a player he is. His passing, movement & technical ability is not at the level of DVB & you can't even claim his work rate to be superior DVB because in every limited chance the DVB has had,he appears to be everything he can & working as hard as anyone for the team. in my opinion he is a very good example of where we are as a club right now,not good. McT in my opinion is a great example of where are as a club at the moment..far from good enough.

Anybody that hates on mctominay does not understand this club. He's a vital squad player even though he's not the most talented. Plenty of hate to go around this club but Scott is not where it's at. Hate, who mentioned hate,oh yeah, you!! Hate & thinking a player is not good enough based upon what you see are two very different things.

Bit rich that, given how ridiculous (and a bit thick) you and that other guy are being, over someone like McTominay no less. As I said, lots of other things you can moan about, but it's just dumb to pick this for your flavor of the month.
