That really was brilliant in the end. First half was a disaster - my partner fell asleep around then and when she woke up thought we had lost as the last thing she heard was me literally raging in the living room.
But the second half was a dream. Five goals! Some of them were majestic too. Love it. And it also means we can definitely get stuck in on Sunday as we should be safe next week barring an unprecedented collapse. Beating the scouse would make it an incredibly satisfactory week, but even if not, last night was the most important job.

Also - Bruno and Cavani each got 2 goals and 3 assists. What a pairing.

really? whats that about? He made a snide remark about Scholes and Hargreaves wanting to see Greenwood brought on at half time. They basically said did we really need both Fred and McTominay and Ole came out with some bullshit about balance. I didn't enjoy that actually, thought it was needless and betrayed him being aware of what pundits are saying. All of them also missed the point though that Rashford was anonymous again. Could easily have got Greenwood on for Rashford at HT and Ole could still have had his precious two defensive midfielders. My thoughts exactly!!!

Not really fussed about him making remarks about pundits, but you’re right about Rashford. I thought the biggest issue was having nothing on that right hand side in the first half. I wasn’t as fussed about the two midfielders really. If you’re playing Pogba on the left, you’ve got to have a threat the other side. Thought leaving Greenwood out full stop was strange given he’s been our best player of late. Anyway, I actually enjoyed that last night, a couple of the goals were brilliant. Not going to complain after a 6-2, loved it in the end.

Pogba, Cavani and Fernandes were simply too much for them. Far too good for the competition and it showed. And that was really the difference betwween the two sides.
Should be pretty obvious to anyone that we need a major upgrade on Lindelof and Fred and we are in trouble if Pogba and Cavani leave in the summer and we don't secure top quality replacements. That is the worry really.
At this level it doesn't matter so much. But next season we will be in the Champions League and teams won't crumble the way Roma did second half and will do an even better job exposing our weaknesses.
With Pogba part of the problem is we often don't use him properly. You can see how he thrives when he is played further forward and given a lot more freedom. He is far less effective as a holding midfielder but unfortunately both Jose and Ole prefer the 4-2-3-1 formation. Maybe if we got a top quality CDM he'd be able to play more of a box to box role. But for now we should probably give Rashford the rest of the season off because Pogba has made that spot on the left hand side his own.

Not sure what`s going on with Rashford but he`s looking like Martial these days, body language all pointing badly, long face, etc, people keeping saying he`s injured if he is he should be rested until recovered because at the moment he isn't right.

Definitely agree that Rashford needs to be taken out of the games for a while...he looks either shot or not bothered and both are as bad as each other...we need him firing again and he just doesn't look to be at the races...
Anyway, I have realised that I had a bigger influence on the game than I thought...
I always have a drink handy whilst watching but if its red wine, I drink far too much (nerves...) so I have taken to drinking cider...'cos it still tastes OK when it isn't ice cold...
So I started with a can of Strongbow...cheap and just about OK...we scored early...
Then I switched to my favourite...Henry Weston's Vintage...and they scored two...
So I swapped back to Strongbow for the second half...and we all know what happened...
I think this is equivalent to Carb's pizza situation...

I must admit, Pogba looks as though he gives a shit more these days. Not sure how much is due to the good things he’s said about how Ole manages, or just that he’s putting himself in the shop window. It’s a bit of a conundrum, “leopards don’t change their spots” and all that, but when he’s motivated he’s an integral part of what we’re building towards. I really think the free-roaming wide left position is Pogba's most effective. It allows him room to drift to find space without treading on Bruno's toes, and Shaw is so good going forward Pogba always has the two options of going inside or working it wide. Defensively we aren't as at risk of him losing the ball and having teams right on top of our crap defence immediately.

A few rumours emerging that Cavani is staying on. Being discussed in the transfer thread, but it's more than rumours. It's very reliable sources singing from the same hymn sheet.

He’s carrying a knock. And is being played out of position. He clearly needs a break, which hopefully will come after the Roma game. The rest of the league games are pretty much meaningless.

I think it’s more than a knock as well according to reports. Apparently he requires shoulder surgery and it seems clear he’s dealing with an ankle issue as well. It’s incredibly irritating having some of our supporters question his commitment and suggest he’s disinterested. Absolutely mind boggling.

Yeah with Pogba so good in that wide left position and Greenwood and Cavani banging them in there is absolutely no need to be playing Rashford when he is unfit and out of sorts.
I know we have the other thread talking about Cavani. But difficult to contain my excitement. I think we are only just starting to see how good he still is. I'm expecting even greater things from him next season. There haven't been that many world class players at the club since Fergie left. But Cavani definitely still fits into that bracket and it is an honour to have him at the club.
