My guess is that six months ago he felt that speaking publicly about how the entire team were crap and needed to be replaced would make it even more difficult to get any kind of effort with the squad he was stuck coaching until the summer. But I think he could have said something about how he wanted to sign a striker (and hopefully a DM in January) to secure top 4 and was denied funds. I think when he took over he figured the squad had just downed tools under Ole and was undercoached and he'd be able to steer us to top 4 and then realized just how bad things really were and pretty much gave up and focused on trying to steady the ship and hoped for the best. He will get marginalized that is for sure and I doubt he will play much of a role in the rebuild. Hopefully ETH does take some of his transfer suggestions on board as Ralf knows the German league well and there is some quality there. But I figure he will be more focused on trying to restore his reputation as a coach with the Austrian national team. One thing we do know for certain is these wankers downed tools on him after just 2 games & he was clearly forced him into reverting back to how their lazy self entitled attitudes wanted to dictate style of play,he had nowhere to go. Would any of us given him money to spend, knowing it would almost certainly wasted as any player coming in would probably get dragged down to their level. He now has to restore his reputation just like all the previous managers post SAF(OGS aside) because he has been failed by the owners & most of players,it’s a fairly common theme.

Ten hag never seemed like he wanted Ralf around, and to be fair, doesn’t look like a man that needs Ralf around. If this is a power play to ensure he has final say in all matters and the number of middlemen are reduced I kind of like it. So I think it’s okay that he’s gone and done with. Thanks for burning the players Ralf.

In that 6 months he would have learnt so much about this squad and that information alone is pretty priceless to a new manager. I would have given him a DOF role and used his contacts and extensive knowledge of the transfer market to rebuild the squad. There's alot of wishful thinking here on ETH, he needs help to make this work.

He will definitely need help but if Rangnick is not the guy for him then what's more to be said really. I too thought Rangnick would make a good DoF but what good will come out of having someone unwanted in the role. If this is a sacking, then we have to shine the light on Murtough and Arnold - they would have taken that decision. If they think they can handle the negotiations with other clubs they better fucking prove it and we will see the results over the next few months.

It really puts this years recruitment under even more scrutiny,if that were at all possible. We've completely misused Ralf up to end of season & we were at the point where we could have used his knowledge & contacts in the game, one week on, he's gone typical of the club. Nothing has changed.

No one really knows what the consultancy role would have entailed (just as no one knows what Fletcher actually does!) but it would have been advisory and not have involved any decision making power so I do not see how Erik could have felt threatened by Ralf's continuing presence at the club. Of course the sensible thing would have been to make Ralf DoF as unlike Murtough and Fletcher he actually has a successful track record in that role at Leipzig. And all Erik really said was that it was on the club and he probably already knew that Ralf was on the way out so couldn't say that he was looking forwards to working with him or anything like that.
I think Ralf leaving was probably a decision made by Murtough and Arnold with probably a nudge from the Glazers. I think there are probably a few possible and not mutually exclusive reasons for the decision:
Firstly Ralf's public comments would have ruffled feathers upsetting players we aren't prepared to shift and annoying the Glazers who clearly don't want to take losses in a fire sale and then have to invest heavily to buy several players this summer. Easiest way to silence him is a generous payoff and a NDA. And you will notice that Erik's first press conference was a stark contrast from Ralf's comments and full of positivity and hope.
Secondly Ralf and the rest had a completely different opinion on the rebuild. Ralf (quite rightly) favours open heart surgery and a total overhaul of the squad. The others prefer the idea that the squad still has "potential" and better coaching can get more out of underperforming players and we can continue just signing three players every summer to refresh the squad. So Ralf probably doesn't want to get involved in a project that he thinks will fail especially one where he would have very limited influence and his advice and recommendations will probably be ignored (just like they were in January when he wanted a striker to replace Greenwood). And the others don't want to receive advice from Ralf they don't want to hear. To me this is probably the most likely explanation for the parting of ways.
Thirdly, we needed a convenient fall guy for the terrible season we just had. Much easier to say Ralf was a failure and break the association.

But agree that would have used his contacts and if they wanted him out it should have been once the transfers were done

Ralf wasn't allowed to sign any players in January even when Greenwood was arrested and he realized that the only capable CDM (Matic) was well past his sell by date. So I doubt even if he had stayed he would have had much influence over recruitment. Even Erik only gets a veto and ability to make suggestions and express his preferences over the transfer shortlists the recruitment team present to him.
I loved the idea of Ralf and Erik putting their heads together and bringing in some affordable rough diamonds from the Dutch and German league. But it was always going to be just a fantasy. All we can do is hope that some of the suggestions Ralf has made have been taken onboard by the recruitment team and will form part of the shortlists presented to Erik and during the brief handover period Erik and Ralf did discuss some potential signings and Erik follows up on some of them. But I think most likely Ralf's suggestions have been ignored just as they were in January and Erik will focus on trying to bring in players he has some familiarity with either because they play in the Dutch league or he has encountered them in the Champions League as Ajax boss.

Ralf had a look under the bonnet (hood for you ‘mericans’) declared the car absolute scrap, and berated the owners for its awful condition. The ‘owners’ obviously took a dim view and (literally) chucked him under the next bus that come down Chester Road! Never mind that “Mutual Agreement “ bollocks either.

Alex Shaw @alexshawespn · 1h Ten Hag instrumental in Rangnick leaving Utd - didn't want to work with him
Rangnick annoyed as he thought he'd meet ETH. ETH only granted phone call
RR/Utd have signed a non disclosure agreement following exit
