But this is my point, everyone else is going to recruit what they need, this isn't the summer to go cheap with the usual 2 /3 signings,we will be further behind. Give ETH what he needs 7,8,9,10 decent signings + ETH & we can get us back seriously challenging the best in our league next season, who the wants to wait for yet another mythical rebuild dragged out 6 windows, sack the manager, rinse & repeat. The Glazers need to back the manager to the level he needs,we have to get back to wanting to be best. There isn’t a hope in hell we’re signing 7 players this summer, let alone 10. Come on, let’s be realistic here. You know that,I know that,we all know that but if that doesn't happen we will fall further behind the clubs we have to be challenging, nobody is standing still here, waiting for us to get our act together. If the club are serious about being the best again, then that is what it needs. Any Cup is nice but if we are serious about the being best,we have to be seriously challenging our so called rivals in the premier league & the best clubs in Europe,we are not challenging them if win a Europa league & finish 6th or 7th,in my eye's that won't represent tangible success based upon what the ambitions & objects for the club have to be. To directly quote Richard Arnold from last week,he told me the club want to be back at the top & he has plan that is being actioned.

As much as we hope for that, I believe that 4 solid signings, especially 2 in midfield, a striker and CB would see us do well. Get rid of the rotten apples too. I think we will only see more than 4 signings if someone messes up in Pre season and ETH thinks they aren’t good enough or we get decent offers for players and we simply replace them. Take RB for instance, one of them are likely to leave and laird given a chance. If laird doesn’t take it in pre season or the one that stays looks poor in pre season then he will push for a sale thus he can get a replacement in. I think those are the kind of scenarios where we could see more players in maybe

There is a reason why we went for Ten Hag and not Conte. And for all this talk about how things have changed we are still run primarily as a commercial club rather than a football club.
The remit will be to get a lot more out of our underperforming squad, bring through some youngsters, and make 3-4 smart signings every summer on a modest budget. And we've managed to identify the one elite manager prepared to proceed on this basis because it is close to what he is used to at Ajax and he is arrogant enough to think that he can succeed where Ole and Ralf failed.
I think a lot of us would like a fire sale and for us to be able to spend £300M to bring in several players. But that is the way clubs run by Russian and Saudi billionaires looking for instant glory are run. Not us.
Probably that is required and Ralf pretty much said as much. But if ETH is as good as his work at Ajax suggests and he is given sufficient control over transfers and we show sufficient patience he might be able to pull it off and at least get us challenging for trophies again.

At this point, I just want to not be embarrassed watching us play. As in, I want to see players who try to win and actually care.

The talk of the Devils podcast is very interesting this week. A Dutch journalist has some real insights into ETH. Worth a listen.

Thanks for the steer on that Stew...just listened to it and it was really interesting... Timber and maybe Antony would be great additions... I must confess that I am pretty excited by this appointment...

Probably good practice for the first 6 months at Utd.

I think McClaren will prove to be a shrewd appointment and it was interesting to hear what van de Kraan had to say about LVG...

First thing that needs to happen is to stop the snobbery of winning ‘lesser ‘ cups .
This kind of mentality is partly responsible for the top 4 benchmark that the Glazers have allowed to infiltrate the fan base and a lack of appetite to push on.
We’re miles away from the big cups so let’s just accept mediocrity as our lot.
Basically a no man’s land attitude.
Pathetic!

The talk of the Devils podcast is very interesting this week. A Dutch journalist has some real insights into ETH. Worth a listen. It was a better podcast without Anka on it. But it was a really good listen, like you said later, for him and Tadic to compromise is really promising. And you'd think with McClaren on board that he'd have had some advice from Fergie through contacts about who isn't worth keeping if he wants to make real change. Please none of this keeping players on for an extra year for the sake of it etc

If Garner helps Forest win promotion to the Premier League, I think EtH will look at him seriously for the squad?
