I'd rather see us reclaim the Arsenal Trophy next season as a priority,we have to be up there challenging & get closer to City & the Vermin,Champions league through league position is vital. Trophies over top 4 every day of the week. In ten years time you’ll look back on this period and you’ll remember the trophies Jose won, not the fact Ole finished 2nd. We need to start winning things again, not getting top 4 so the Glazers get richer and we get steamrolled in the first knockout game. Can’t even believe that it’s a debate. |

100% this. We should win the Europa next season which would give ETH an excellent start and a real foundation to build on. We’re not winning the league next year for a myriad of reasons so a European trophy is not be sneezed at. Because silverware is a lot more valuable than...no silverware? Because regularly coming top 4 but winning nothing just funnels money into the Glazer pocket and ensures we are stuck in a position where we'll never win anything but do just enough to make those spots and get a bit more money for them to take away? I don't understand why this is confusing. |

I also said closer & challenging,it will take significantly more investment & joined up thinking to get us consistently challenging City/Vermin,than it would to win a Europa League. ETH could come in & without any investment in the squad realistically win the Europa next season through better coaching,he won't do the same in the premier league. |

For me Jose's first season is still the benchmark. Winning three trophies in one season feels as much of a dream or a distant memory as the glory years under Fergie. Bouncing in and out of the top 4 has been the consistent theme in the post-Fergie years but the trophies we won under LVG and Jose made it feel like we were still a big club. And a trophy next season will be the clearest indicator that we are on the right track under ETH. Not to mention it will be the perfect send off for Ronaldo and a fitting reward for his loyalty if he decides to stay another season after this season's shitshow.

Also I think realistically top 4 probably isn't gonna happen next season. Manchester City and Liverpool are years ahead of us. Chelsea will spend big under new ownership. Tottenham will be forced to spend to keep Conte happy and have a better squad than ours and he's had six months head start on ETH with the rebuild and they were in a far better state than we are when he took over. Also the plan under ETH should be to bring in young and ambitious players who can develop under his coaching into world class players rather than experienced players that can hit the ground running but only offer us a few seasons before they start to decline.
But the Europa League is definitely winnable and with a lot of luck we might be able to win one of the domestic cups. As an example under LVG we had an amazing record against the other big clubs in the league even though our squad was far inferior. Because in one off games coaching/tactics can make a difference. And at Ajax ETH won some big games in the Champions League against teams that were easily the favourites on paper.
