ETH wants to give him a few games on the left to see if he's a bit less predictable. Most manages have him worked out and that can be seen in the way teams set up against him(they just show him the outside and block him from cutting inside). Bar the goal even Charlton Athletic from the championship pretty much nullified him last night. League one sadly. I stand corrected

really hope pellestri is given a chance, it will mean less pressure to get Sancho on the field. It will also mean that Antony will know he is not guaranteed to start when fit. The lad works very very hard, nice feet, decent passing and likes to run at people ETH wants to give him a few games on the left to see if he's a bit less predictable. Most manages have him worked out and that can be seen in the way teams set up against him(they just show him the outside and block him from cutting inside). Bar the goal even Charlton Athletic from the championship pretty much nullified him last night. We are stacked on the left. Rashford is no.1 there and Garnacho is not far behind. Antony has no business there unless Rashford is going to play n.9 which he isn't really. Antony simply needs to work on his right foot, it's not impossible, just takes alot of work. If he wants to push his game on he gotta do it and the coaches should be working on that with him

On Mainoo, it was good to see him play further up. Donny is injured and Bruno can't play all the games so there is an opening for him. Sadly with FRed and Scott around he is unlikely to get in deeper if Casemiro or Eriksen need a rest.

Yeah I would love to know what Erik Ten Hag sees in Antony besides being flashy and having a bit of swagger. Reminds me a lot of Depay who could also score the occasional goal. I was chatting with a few reds in the ground last night and they hold much stronger negative views on him than anything posted on here. I hope he is a success here but i just dont see a world class player in him.

It obviously shows the lack of squad depth, but I think really outside of City, everyone is lacking on that front. Arsenal are flying this season but they weren’t great the night before against Oxford either. Nobody is able to compete with City on that front, hopefully that changes once we’re sold. Newcastle will also have the resources to build a strong squad full of options. The game wasn’t great. Antony’s goal was fantastic but needs a lot of work on his weaker foot. Slows counter attacks down a lot when he’s having to stop to cut inside. Having said that, it’s his first season, he’s already scored some goals, he shows flashes of unbelievable potential and we’ve struggled to find someone on the right side for so long that he’s already far ahead of what we have seen the last few years. These goals he scores are very Arjen Robben. Everyone knew what he was going to do as well but nobody could stop him. Maguire is shit. Buzzing to see Rashford keep his run going. It’s only Charlton init, but it just keeps some momentum and positivity heading into a difficult few games. May be ETH should try something radical like a leftie on the left & rightie on the right?? Nothing wrong with beating the man with pace or skill on the outside,we've had numerous players in the past that have made very successful careers doing it. Wouldn’t want to move Rashford over to the right again given his current form and how bad he was there in the past. Also taking away Antony’s only current weapon which is bending shots into the far corner.

I think he will come good. First season etc. Reality is the price tag was double his real value, from a fan, pundit etc point of view he is expected to do alot more due to the price tag. If we bought him for £40 million we would all think he has done ok and with more work would be a top signing.

On comparisons between Antony and Memphis, pretty sure Antony had bested Depay’s domestic goals tally for us after three games.

He's one footed and predictable and his decision making is often terrible. He scores the occasional goal which has some value but we need a lot more from him. He's already had the benefit of two years of being coached by Erik and his team. And he is 23 not 18. So I am struggling to see how it is going to work out even allowing for the fact it is his first season.
My hope is that he is part of a masterplan that has yet to come into fruition because Erik has been forced to be pragmatic this season to get results and doesn't have all the players he needs to play the system he wants. Perhaps when Erik is able to fully implement his system it will unlock Antony's potential.
In other words Antony may not develop into a world class player but might end up being a great fit once Erik has his system up and running.

Yeah it would be mad to change Rashford's position when he is scoring for fun from the left. The only time he has looked decent as a number 9 was in the big games where we played more on the counter allowing him to use his pace. And a few years back under Ole he managed 20 or so goals a season playing on the left. So clearly it is where he is most effective. Unfortunately once Erik gets frustrated with Martial or Martial gets injured Weghorst will be leading the line this season. I'd move Rashford to the 9 tbh,we don't have one currently & he is only player scoring. But he’s largely scoring those goals from playing out on the left which is where he finds space to run into.

Big chance to get through to the semi’s, should win, rest some players etc… Putting this on earlier than normal as it’s a monumental day for me! I’ll be taking my 7 year old daughter to her first ever United game. I don’t think she’s really bothered right now as she’s never even watched a full game however I hope when she sees our stadium, she will change her tone. My first game was in February 93 when I was 9 so she’s beating me by 2 years! Big Dad moment! Well...?

To be fair, we were in the trial area for safe standing so she couldn't really see. She also kept looking at me shocked with all the swearing! I think I'll leave it a couple of years before I take her again.

Good Luck, similar experience with my Daughter when see was 8,took her to the AC Milan pre season friendly in Cardiff. 20 minutes in she wanted to leave & has since shown zero interest in Football
