Drop Fernandes Drop Weghorst Drop Shaw The first two should not even be in the squad. There are others I wish could be dropped as well but our squad is too weak. That's the issue really. Just on Bruno, if ETH had never noticed or said anything before I believe he now will have a word. I don't doubt the talent of Bruno but his application and attitude as a professional player that plays for Manchester United should never be called into question based on any on the pitch antics, and he should definitely carry himself on another level as Captain. Even if we are 10 goals down he is the one player that needs to be on point. The only other thing I will say on Bruno is that the manager should not be playing him on the left, granted this should not mean he behaves like a petulant 4 year, but it would be better all round if players in general can be played in their best position. I think Fernandes is actually one of the few positions we could drop him and have adequate replacement. I wouldn't have Sancho out wide but as a 10 with Garnacho and Anthony on the wings. Rashford through the middle and Casemiro with Sabitzer behind. Fernandes retaining the captaincy is pathetic. Just indicates there is zero accountability. If it had been Pogba or Ronaldo putting the kind of performances Bruno has got away with, culminating in that disgusting display on Sunday there would be people on here demanding they be sacked. The idea that his talent is beyond doubt is off the mark as well. He certainly has a killer ball in him but his overall is very one dimensional.

Fernandes should be dropped or put on the bench if only to make a statement. He had no issue benching Rashford when he was late for a meeting.

I did make that Pogba comment to a friend genuinely believe if it were him radio stations would be shut down with calls, however he did point out Bruno has done far far more and turns up more than not which is fair. I really am not convinced on Sancho in No.10, we just need Dortmund Sancho full stop. Not really having Antony too, just not yet convinced but it's his first season. Supposedly Mainoo has been playing further forward so maybe at some point he might get a run out, not likely this game though granted, worst case just stick Fred in there and let him buzz around. In regards to the captaincy it would be massively harsh to strip him of it right now, going forward i.e next season though unless something drastically changes I don't see him with the armband.

I am not convinced of Sancho as a 10 either but in theory it is a role that should suit him. I was more looking at the options that give us some leeway to make a proper statement with Fernandes because the guy has just lost every bit of credit for me. Regarding the captaincy, it's well-documented that I have been against Fernandes having the armband anyway but in my view it cannot be not too harsh to strip him of it. We just capitulated 7-0 to Liverpool at Anfield. Not in a friendly, not in a dopey fourth round League Cup tie with half a team out. In what is supposed to be the bread and butter. And Fernandes jacked it in after ten minutes of the second half. If ten Hag was really as ruthless as his hype Bruno should have been with the reserves this week. Fucking spineless stat-padding fraud.

'He's playing a brilliant season. He's had a really important role in why we're in the position we are. He's giving energy to the team, not only running a lot at the highest intensity but in the right way and right direction. He's coaching players, he's an inspiration. But no-one is perfect, everyone makes mistakes. We have to learn and he has to learn. He will because he's intelligent. I'm happy to have Bruno Fernandes in the team and he will be captain when Harry isn't on the pitch.' ETH
So much for consequences for Bruno. Seems at best he got a slap on the wrist from Erik.

Like, I know everyone/many disagree with Fernandes being the captain - but he's not, he's stand-in for Slabhead when he's not playing. Granted, technically that's almost every game.
So is the idea that we essentially sack our "second" captain in a single season?
Don't get me wrong, he might not be the best option to be our club captain, but I wasn't expecting our stand-in captain to be stripped at this moment.
We need a new, long term captain, and that will only realistically happen once Slabhead has been replaced.

With luck Maguire won't be here anyway in the summer so will have to pick a new full time captain anyway. Personally I think Bruno is a fantastic player but doesn't have the right temperament to be a captain. I'd give it to Varane, Licha or Casemiro in the summer ready for next season.

Do we 'sack our *second* captain in a season' (N.B. ten Hag has not had the bollocks to actually remove the captaincy from Maguire)? YES. Send a message of genuine accountability for disgusting, spineless, selfish, waster performances. Fernandes was not just diabolical on Sunday. It has been months of stat-padded crap and whinging. Sunday was just the the mask slipping. Fernandes is a rat. Allowing him to keep the armband - while also allowing Maguire to shamelessly take it anytime he does play - is pure cowardice.

Having consequences for shaming the club in a way not suffered since 1895 is not pointless. I'm not saying the consequences are pointless. I'm saying the timing is. We're 3/4 into the season and are intending on challenging for two more trophies. We don't have the squad to just be dropping half the side (even though they deserve it). Without risking a competition that we look good for doing well in. If we had the squad I'd drop most of them after Sunday. It was unforgivable and being pissed off about is an understatement. But I'm not willing to throw two potential trophies away just to teach some of these a lesson. They've been given a final warning by Ten Hag and he's already proved he's not afraid of making difficult decisions. I'll trust he knows what he's doing and will sort the shit out once and for all.
