On Sancho, who has been garbage, it’s too easy now to include him amongst the “dross” that Ole filled the squad with. Almost everyone was happy when we signed him. He looked a great player. He was number one on most people’s lists. Looked to be the player we finally needed on the right. We’ve discussed before that some people were unsure and were vocal about that. But the majority were more than chuffed with the signing. So if boat loads of people are surfacing now saying that they weren’t, then they’re lying. Simple as that. I think the problem is we paid him far too much. £350k pw when no other club were in for him is madness. The fee looked fair at the time for the level of talent we thought we were getting. But the wages are madness. However, that’s not Ole’s fault is it. Think it’s unfair for people to just file him under “Ole filled the club with dross”.

One thing I noticed about sancho(that you won’t really see on tv)is that when the team was looking for an outlet he purposely drifted 10 meters in from the touch line which put one of the opposition players in line of sight(making himself unavailable). He was basically hiding from the ball and did this on numerous occasions. I am not singling him out for last night but he just doesn’t have the mentality to be a top player. He was wank on defense also. Think in the last 20 minutes there was a few opportunities to close down the right side attack in our third, he was closer to whoever was on the ball near the touch lin* a few times but refused to press, Malacia had to switch from his man who was on the edge of the box and had to rush out to attempt to block a cross a press. For a full back that is infuriating. ETH needs a bit more Mourinho in him, you have to berate that player from the touch line for the laziness.

Oh absolutely.I don't think anybody thought he'd be a flop.

Lindelof could be the only CB available for the FA cup semi, lost for words.

The real problem for me is the lack of quality in both full backs and midfield to control the game and play against a press and out from the back. We need a clear out in those positions, because apart from Shaw at full back the rest of the full backs literally can't receive the ball under any pressure or beat a player or make a smart pass under any pressure.
It's the same in midfield, with too many players who are high tempo drive forward types, but none of them have that quality to control the play, beat the press or set a tempo! Ok Casemiro is better, with Eriksen, but you are still lacking a player or players who can just grind down the opposition by holding onto the ball and are really comfortable receiving the ball under pressure near their own box and creating the space.
It's really good on the break or the transition among the front players like last night at the start or against Everton who couldn't press for shit, but it's frantic and puts too much pressure on the CB's. Licha and Varane help a lot for CBs who can play and Shaw, but the rest of defenders are dreadful. It's why we can't kill games off or always put ourselves back under pressure.
I know it was better with Casemiro and Eriksen. Varane, Licha and Shaw, but you can't rely on Eriksen and Varane to be fit for more than 50% of games and it's too much pressure on Casemiro. We have too many midfielders who are too similar McT, Fred and Sabitzer all have qualities, but are best getting forward box to box types. You need to clear them out and keep one (Sabitzer) and replace them with 2 mids who are technically better and are more comfortable receiving the ball under pressure near their own box, then improve the full back situation!
The injuries are a nightmare because of these cup runs and the WC and in some ways we are regressing because of it! I think we'll scrape 4th and maybe still win another cup probably the Europa, but we have to kick on to the next level with a 2 year plan with new owners!

How many of Ole’s transfers would you re sign though? The majority are dross. The majority of transfers everyone has made since Fergie have been dross. Ole signed Bruno, Varane, Cavani (had a decent initial season), Ronaldo, Sancho (majority thought was a good signing), Wan-Bissaka (many on here thought he was a good signing and he started well), Diallo (big talent, could still make it), Telles (people on here were clamouring for him to be signed), Donny (everyone thought was a great signing), Pellistri (looks a talent). He also signed Maguire, Dan James and Ighalo on loan (very similar to the Weghorst one). All shite. For context, José signed Zlatan who had a good first season prior to injury. He also signed Fred, Pogba, Bailly (remembered he’s still on our books the other day), Matic, Dalot, Lindelof, Lukaku, Mkhitaryan and Sanchez. I wouldn’t want to sign any of them again either. Now, similar to Ole, some of them looked good signings at the time too. But ultimately they were shite. I’m not going to dig out the shite LVG signed as well. My point is, it’s a problem at the club going back a decade (or more) that the transfer business has been dog muck. But nobody can sit there and pretend that all these signings were shit from the jump because not one fucking person on here went “fuck me, Ole’s lost his mind signing VDB/Sancho/Telles”.

Is it the coaching? The scouting? A lot of these players have fallen off a cliff. Come in with some promise and just don’t really kick on, many regress badly. As much as I want the Qatar money I really just hope it’s not wasted on inflated transfer fees and disgusting wages. The market is ripe this summer, some real talent there with respectable prices to match
