With our shit squad depth we are where we are at this point in time. We have lost both our first choice CB's forcing ETH to play our best LB at CB which results in us having to play one of our 2 average RB's at LB(and when one average RB was playing shite and was rightly hooked we have to switch our other average RB back to RB and replace him with an erratic kid at LB). Top that with having to replace a totally gassed Ericksen with another average player(Fred)who was even shitter than usual. Bruno missing a sitter along with Sancho going back in his shell instead of kicking on after he scored didn't help either. Yes ETH makes mistakes but those players on the pitch should have put that game to bed in the first half. Bar about 3 players i wouldn't care if all that staring 11 where binned off this summer. Eriksen was not totally gassed but even if he was Sabitzer was on the bench to come on instead of Fred. The manager either needs to be good enough to set the team up to compensate for the dross or he needs to figure out a system that raises them to a passable level. We got 2-0 up and we gave it away. We started giving it away at 1-0. It was obvious. We aren't ruthless. Sick of it. Sick of the constant need to find excuses for it even more. I want some fucking accountability and 'It's the owners' is wearing thin. You can't turn shit into gold. Your expectations exceed the capabilities of this squad in my opinion. His recent decisions with subs are questionable but with this squad everything is a punt and that would explain why everyone is spent or injured thats any good. He's pretty much making subs to get fresh legs on at the moment. Guardiola does that but he can bring real quality onto the pitch.

Aaron Ramsdale is top of the League. Dan Burn is ahead of us in third. Average teams get by with a few genuine footballers but I am supposed to accept lower expectations?

Yeah I’m of the same opinion. We’re making too many excuses for our crappy form over the last few months.
Liverpool won stuff in recent years with some pretty average players and not much squad depth. Arsenal and Newcastle are ahead of us and don’t have any of the star quality our team has and a lot of players we’d complain about if they were in our team. Clubs like Brentford and Aston Villa are breathing down our neck. Our previous managers got crucified on here and their squads were much weaker than the one that Erik has at his disposal with many of Erik’s bench options or similarly mediocre players regular starters.
Honestly I think it’s a question of mentality. We’ve got a lot of soft players and players that are inconsistent and can’t be relied upon.
And Erik loves to blame the players but he’s also answerable for the manner of some of our defeats and the way we don’t kill games off and throw leads away and all the goals we concede.

Just on the Rashford consistency topic, I read earlier that he’s on 41 goals/assists for the season. As an individual campaign, those figures are better than the best seasons of Robben, Mane, Hazard, Son and Ribery.
Now, most of those player’s best seasons will have been accompanied by big trophies (except for Son LOL), but I think it shows that Rashford has performed the duties expected of him admirably this season. He’s taken care of the things he can take care of.

None of those teams played a game every 3 days for months on end. Liverpool went years without an injury to a big hitter and instantly folded the second it happened. I do think there’s a mentality problem at the club. We seem to enter situations expecting things to go wrong because that’s what’s happened for so long. Some of the players are tarnished by failure. The manager has undoubtedly made mistakes this season. But there’s been enough progress elsewhere to make up for that overall. I think he’s learning a bit too. This is his first big job.

I wouldn’t call those guys average plus those players aren't injured. Newcastle have gotten away with few injuries all season and the same for arsenal. I want to hold the squad to a higher standard but we know this lot ain't up to it. I'm sure Ten Hag is frustrated by this lot and he's not a wimp like previous managers. Given time and financial backing, he could build a team here.
