If a defender does that - nowhere near the ball - it’s definitely given, why any different for a goalie? In the same way it’s always been different for a keeper. In a similar way to obstruction near the goal line, anywhere else it’s a free kick. If we start giving penalties every time a keeper misses a cross and bumps into an opposition player, we’ll have 3 a game most likely. If it got given last night it would be just the same as when Smalling conceded a penalty for shirt pulling against Newcastle. Never to happen again.

Hopefully Erik will wake up and realize the balance is all wrong in midfield.
Eriksen has his limitations but at least in a deeper central midfield role he was able to pull the strings. Mount simply isn't that kind of player. As I said when we signed him he will inevitably end up as a squad player. And in fact the best use for him might be on the right which might be the best way to fit him in Bruno into the same team.
What we really need alongside Casemiro is someone young and energetic. Even Amrabat would do as at least he offers a bit of aggression and energy and has a good passing range. And at least has the benefit of being affordable. Onana is worth a go but Everton have seen the prices flying around this window so would want a lot for him. But countries like France and Germany are full of young CDMs.
And the annoying thing of course is that we paid an initial £55m for Mount. Chelsea got Caicedo for an initial £100m. And I suspect they got the much better deal.

But countries like France and Germany are full of young CDMs. Anytime I watch French football each team has a strong, athletic ball-winning CM that looks like a Viera clone. Some are obviously better than others but they are out there. Everton’s Onana was at Lille for example. Identify the next one and move quickly. We never buy these types anymore. We wait until they prove themselves in England and then moan when their price doubles or trebles.

I don't get the big DM obsession. We have a top DM and what we needed was a Carrick, not a Hargreaves. A younger version of Eriksen not Mount.
He wanted DeJong badly and that type of player upgrade is what we really need. Casemiro was a better option when he came because we had no real DM and ETH got lucky with that one, because DeJong on his own would have been an issue. We really needed both types of player at that level!! A big club would have bought Casemiro and a similar level partner ball playing deep lying CM
The Carrick, Hargreaves example is a good one. When Hargreaves came it was perfect balance, but you already had a good deep holding mid with excellent passing (Carrick) and a Worldie CM in front with Scholes.
The fact is now we probably need two CM players, which is what most of us thought at the start! Barella, Rabiot someone like that would have been a better option and add a young CDM as a Casemiro understudy!
We need a second striker 2 mids and a CB. No chance with this lot running it

If a defender does that - nowhere near the ball - it’s definitely given, why any different for a goalie? If a defender clocks a forward with his hands then, duh ?! Goalkeepers should always have the benefit of doubt in that situation. What you want him to do, not attack the ball and give that man a free header ? His hands are for catching, not fouling. It was a foul all day long. Had that went against us, you'd be fucking fuming

Had that went against us, you'd be fucking fuming I think the question mark for me is that it had absolutely no effect on the outcome of that bit of play. I suppose the counter argument to that is that’s because he was nowhere near the ball. It was quite jarring seeing our keeper flying about. Not just on that occasion but a few others when he’d come and claimed things or just flew off the line. Take a bit of getting used to, Dave was amazing but operated in a different way and was not as animated as a person.

If we go to Anfield or City’s Kip with that midfield last night we’ll be shredded. Case is already slowing down and we’ve decided to leave him on his own back there, which is suicide.

Ok, so you must agree with cuneyt cakir sending off Nani then? Please don't, I'm not over this yet. Same logic. Foot is for kicking the ball not the player. Ergo high kick ergo red card. Without any consideration for accident or collision.

My comment was just tongue in cheek anyway. Just hits that nerve to even think about that cunt of a ref doing that even after all these years.
