I think as well as letting Dave leave it was a HUGE mistake to let Fred go. He never gave less than 100% and that was true even during Ralf's time at the club. He had a good understanding with Casemiro and his energy is sorely missed in our midfield. Obviously Amrabat is a major upgrade. But it would be good to have both in the squad and ditched Scotty this summer instead. Scotty is a total waste of space. McTominay should have gone first. Fred for all his faults is the better player. |

Fred made it very clear he wanted to play an important role, he was never gonna get that.
We rejected one bid for MCT and he rejected one himself.
Maguire wanted to be paid to leave
Martial had no one interested.

Maguire may be terrible at defending on the pitch, but off the pitch he's good at getting other people to defend him e.g. his mum, various former players, various tabloid hacks and media pundits etc. Hell he even managed to get Ole to defend him in his recent interviews. And all these defenders probably expect some form of payment so it would not surprise me at all if some of the leaks were coming from him.

I just don't think there's anyone in football that can sort this mess out with these clowns running it. Under different owners and proper backing (and the backing to sort these players out without it falling back on the manager) this guy imo does the job. But until things change higher up we're never going to find out and just keep going around in circles every 2 or 3 years. |
