Scotty may be getting quite a bit of game time this season with our injury problems and his ability to score goals is helpful to the team when our forwards are misfiring. But he's not technically good enough to play in an Erik Ten Hag team and keeping him as an impact sub is a luxury we can't afford when FFP is constraining our ability to spend and as a youth product we could book the sale proceeds as pure profit. The mistake we often make is we wait until squad players have become fringe players before we try to sell them and then their high wages (from multiple contract extensions) and time spend on the side lines means we can only get a few quid for them. We know we need to raise significant funds from player sales this summer so we can spend £200-£300m this summer. So we should absolutely be considering squad players who might attract some interest. Scotty's game time next season will be far more limited as Mount returns to full fitness and we buy a midfielder this summer to play alongside Mainoo. So better to sell him this summer when we can get maybe £40-50m for him than in a few seasons time when we might only get half or even a third of that especially once we put him on a fat new contract. Still SJR is biased towards British so doesn't surprise me that giving Scotty a new contract is one of his first orders of business. I'm not fan of Scott either but I'll be fair to him and say that without his contribution this season ETH would be long gone and we'd be at least 4 or 5 places worse in the league. He has a place in the general squad , also the kind of success we are after requires players like him to fill the gaps in cup games and during an injury crisis.

McT is on a similar path as Mcguire this year.... absolutely loathed by a lot of the supporter base for being consider not good enough for this club, tried to be shipped off in the summer, but kept his mouth shut, kept his head down and just went to work. They play with actual heart, like they actually give a shit and it's what we want to see from the players on the pitch. Maybe he is good enough to play for this club and just hasn't played in a position to help him and keep our mid field from being a gaping hole, idk. He has my respect for what he is doing.

Because he’s English and we’ve been guilty of paying stupid fees in the past. Tobido is almost half his price at 40 and possibly equally good.

Lot of Rabiot talk again. Kinda like clock work we see his name pop up link with us for the last 3 to 4 transfer windows Was seeing a lot of Theo Hernandez talk a couple days ago but I think it was engagement farming.

Really you'd think we'd have learnt from our previous attempts to refresh our midfield on the cheap.
Casemiro and Eriksen may have only cost £60m total but Casemiro gave us one good season and Eriksen gave us one good half season.
Mount and Amrabat cost us £65m total. Mount has been injured most of the season and while Erik seems to think he can convert him into a central midfielder he's spent most of his career as an attacking midfielder and I don't think it is going to work. As for Amrabat less said the better.
At least with Mainoo's emergence we can prioritize one very good midfielder. We can keep Mount and Scotty as backup. But I hope we set our sights a lot higher than Rabiot!

Be a top signing Seen him a few times this season and I'm not convinced. Having another mare tonight aswell. Gets caught out far too easily or is found flat footed. Suppose being at a club like Everton doesn't do him any favours so maybe being a tad harsh. But I fail to see the hype around him up to now. The only plus is he's young so has time to improve at a higher level. Wouldn't pay anything over 40m for him though, even less if they went down.

...on the other hand, given that Chelsea appear to need to sell players before the end of June (and given that he is a Utd supporter) why not make a £100m+ offer for Palmer?
Branthwaite is a No for me. Onana even more so.

Thought the idea under SJR was we were trying to move away from big money signings? Spend £80m on a player and if he flops or gets injured then under FFP that is difficult to recover from. And we all know that British players come with massively inflated prices.
Not opposed to buying players with some Premier League experience. That can be beneficial. I think Joao Gomes would be a good signing for us and wouldn't cost the earth and would complement Mainoo very well adding some steel to our midfield to go with Mainoo's silk.

reading in the media today that Sancho wants back in if ETH gets sacked.
I'm done with the club if he comes back under any circumstance.
