Yeah I'd prefer to bring Greenwood back than Sancho back. Much better player and much better professional.
Besides Sancho's stats for Dortmund are piss poor in a league where he used to be able to score and assist for fun. 14 games 2 goals 1 assist. Goes to show that talent can only take you so far and his poor training and poor attitude has caught up with him.
He has two years left on his contract and is on £13m a year. I cannot imagine any takers even if we offer to pay a good chunk of his salary. Maybe we can offer him £10m to rip up his contract and piss off. But he'd probably prefer to train with the kids and play video games.
Sadly a cautionary tale of what happens when you do not do your due diligence on a player as his unprofessionalism was a badly kept secret that dated back to his Manchester City days.

I am struggling to see the point of Wilcox. As far as I can figure out he did excellent work for Manchester City with their academy bringing through some very good players. Then moved to Southampton January 2023 as their director of football and poached some of Manchester City's kids. But they only spent £20m last summer. So I hardly see how the above qualifies him to help Ashworth spend £200m every summer. And seems as though like Ashworth he would have a bias towards British players which isn't helpful.
I would have been much keener on Dougie Freedman who has at least done some very impressive transfer business with Crystal Palace.

Aye, the old Murtough role, before he replaced Ed.

I'd rather we offer Sancho a wage for life than bring back that fucking ALLEGED rapist.

...on the other hand, given that Chelsea appear to need to sell players before the end of June (and given that he is a Utd supporter) why not make a £100m+ offer for Palmer?Branthwaite is a No for me. Onana even more so. this is what has been wrong with this club for years. wrong player , ridiculous amount of money. A ridiculous amount of money that would be laughed at by Chelsea.

He isn't being appointed to reprise the academy director role he held for a decade at Manchester City. He will be involved in 1st team recruitment doing something between Murtough and Fletcher's role. Basically Ashworth's number 2. He may have a good eye for a young player from his time at Manchester City. But he has very little experience spending big money on players that are ready for 1st team action. Maybe he can grow into the role. But with FFP we cannot afford any more big mistakes in the transfer market. As I said I'd have preferred Dougie Freedman who's made some fantastic signings for Crystal Palace.

The key to all of this is to have a number of very experienced people on the same page, who can work well with each other. We will have tremendous reach with all of these people now focused on bringing success. That includes Ratcliff, Brailsford and Jean Claude Blanc as well as Berrada, Ashworth and Wilcox. They will have contacts and relationships that are key as well as hopefully a better way to value and evaluate targets. The culture needs a massive revamp and is still mostly based around the cult of manager. There's too much competition now and everyone else has moved on and we haven't.

Chelsea's purchase of Palmer is a bit of luck really, because when you consider the amount of money they have wasted on a lot of other mediocrity. I would imagine if we had Wilcox in when Palmer wanted out we would have bought him. He's a young lad from Wythenshawe and a United supporter, so it's frustrating, when we have spent so much on so little in that position.

Manchester City aren't going to start selling us their youngsters even if we now have Wilcox who has the inside track on them.

As I said Wilcox worked a decade for City heading up their Academy. He moved over to Southampton January 2023. So he's only had one transfer window with them. They only spent about £22m last summer on Shea Charles (a Man City youth product) and Ross Stewart (from Sunderland).
And with Ashworth still on gardening leave, Wilcox is probably going to have to run transfer recruitment this summer alongside Erik (or whoever we sign to replace him). That worries me.
I'm happy for Wilcox to be Ashworth's number 2 and use the eye for a young player he developed working with Manchester City's youth players to identify some good young talent to booster our ranks. But I don't think he's ready to make big money signings. And we seem to be stalling on paying Newcastle what they require to waive the gardening leave. So I am not optimistic about this summer.

Think Berrada might have some input here…
