If de Ligt is valued at 40 odd million while those wankers are asking for 70, I think we’ve got to tell Branthwaite to enjoy his stay at that shithole for the foreseeable future.

Reservations I have with De Ligt is probably slower than Maguire. Juve haven’t fancied him and neither have Munich replacing him with Dier of all people

Yeah De Ligt is a hard pass. Since when do either Juve or especially Bayern dump quality, young players. He's had 18 good months 4 years ago, and is on a huge wage. Stay well clear.

Might be worth making a loan + option to buy deal with De Ligt and buy Branthwaite as well.
That way we get an experienced replacement for Varane while Branthwaite continues to mature and develop and if Martinez's injury issues persist next season we won't end up with a defence of Maguire and Branthwaite.
Bayern might go for it if they are keen to get De Ligt off their payroll and cannot get any permanent move offers.

Apparently dani olmo has a release clause of 60m euro that's the type of smart deal we should be looking at, it's the type of player city always get for a really good fee, yet we would go and pay 80 or 90 for a lesser player.

Tbh I was more on about deals like that, what city always do yet we never seem to pull them off, but as for him in particular I think he's class and our team/ squad as a whole is shocking, he would get more then enough games I would say and would improve us, but obviously priority wise he's well down the list of what we need.

There are lots of players with reasonable release clauses that play in positions we urgently need to strengthen. Off the top of my head: Hjulmand, Inacio, Guirassy, Zirzkee.
We don't have the luxury City have where they can stockpile good players regardless of position. So hard pass this summer on Olmo and Olise and the like.
This summer we need a CB, CDM and CF.

It's always a fucking drama, just buy a decent CB proven in a top 4 league who is robust and can stay fit(40-50M) and a top LB or talented young no 2. A consistent back 4 with good full backs that can invert in midfield in this system will make a huge difference. There are so many options it really shouldn't be a problem and we should not be getting stuck on one player like we always seem to and overpay for English players in particular.
I honestly believe the worst area of the field last year for us was midfield. That needs some ruthless decisions and the purchase of some very good technical players with energy. They also don't have to be hyped potential generational talents costing a fortune and there are players on a free that would massively improve us, because we need at least 2 good central mids!

I think we need some patience.
It is easy to close deals quickly if you are prepared to overpay for mediocre players. Mount is a good example. Signed at the beginning of the summer because we paid massively over the odds for a player with just 1 year left on his contract with no other serious suitors.
INEOS sensibly refusing to meet Everton's £70-£80m valuation for Branthwaite, our first choice CB target. We are going to look elsewhere and De Ligt and Guehi have been mentioned. But they are both tied up with the Euros.
Similarly Brentford want around £60m for Toney. We are interested but probably value him at closer to £40m given he has a year left on his contract and is 28 years old. So we will need to look at alternative options.
The previous recruitment team would have blown a combined £140m on Branthwaite and Toney. It would have then struggled to raise sufficient funds through player sales to allow us to buy a CDM (arguably as much a priority as a CB and a back-up striker) and we'd have gone for one of our famous last minute loan deals or a similar short-term fix.
Pre-season is overrated anyway. Players involved in the Euros will join late and miss most of the pre-season. And with all the travelling required we are bound to pick up more injuries.
I'd rather bring in the right players at the right prices late in the window than rush into overpaying or compromising on quality.

Serhou Guirassy 44 goals in the Bundesliga in 58 games and a really good link player last 2 years and has a release clause of 17M and current salary of 40k pw. Of course Dortmund are all over it, but English clubs will pay 60M/70M Euro and 250K a week wage demand for Ivan Toney

Everton can demand whatever they want but Branthwaite didn't make the Euros so that eval is shit now... wait them out and offer them 50-55 in early July if we really want him. Anything above 60 should be a hard pass for this club. We should be looking to bring in at least 2 potential starting defenders for no more than 90mil so we can get more players in other positions

Jonathan David getting mentioned again today. Good age, one year left on his contract, versatile too. I’d prefer that to the inflated fee we’d pay for Toney.
