Totally understand banning transfers between clubs with the same owners, to some extent.
But what about minority shareholders, and where is that threshold? Ineos only own 27.7% of United.
If clubs share mutual minority shareholders, this may be problematic for many clubs.

I’ve seen Guehi mentioned too. A fine player but would Palace take less piss than Everton? could probably use players as a PX there. maybe AWB ? but then losing depth at RB and a player that shouldnt be sold this year imo. we could have some young players they might be interested in though with Pellistri, Hannibal or even a loan signing

I think the rules are fair. INEOS clearly have significant influence over football operations at both Nice and Manchester United. So there need to be some safeguards if they are to compete in the same competition.
As for signing Todibo in January at the time we didn't have Ashworth or Wilcox on board. And Ratcliffe probably didn't feel qualified to make the call as to whether Todibo could make the step up to the Premier League.
If we insist on signing Guehi we should be using AWB as a makeweight e.g. £30m + AWB. The money saved could then be put towards a more complete full-back who can play on both flanks.

I totally understand the logic, it's more the legal certainty underpinning the threshold that seems vague at first glance - is it football influence, or sharehlding? If Ineos owned 5% of United but had one director on the board in charge of football operations, would that be enough? As a lawyer, I'm curious to know what the rule actually says - you're also limiting a player / employee's right to choose who they would like to work for, so the application is broader than just banning transactions between Plcs and Ltds.

I would think if the fair market price was paid and the money trail was transparent there should be no issues with transfers of this nature However, he is like 3rd/4th on list of CB's we want this summer so......

If we are quoted £80m for Branthwaite and went and bought Todibo for £25m it would probably raise question marks over whether it is an arms length transaction. And no one else seems interested in Todibo so it isn't as though we can say that we won a competitive bidding auction.
Anyway the only reason he is being mentioned is because we're broke.

Frees and plenty of cheap options out there. You don't limit yourself to buying youngsters for top price suddenly after subsiding Real Madrid's strategy, who began this policy in the big clubs 3 years ago!
I'm not saying we just rely on that, but you buy 3 top players under 25 or whatever and get 3 in with experience on frees or who want to move and are cheap even if we have to be savvy and pay a bit of a sign on and give them a 3/4 year contract!
Look at all the top teams none of them are doing it with youngsters alone, even Madrid rely on very experienced players. Would they have won the CL without Kroos and Modric playing a massive part and a 34 year old 1.5M on loan striker scored the goal that got them into the final! Gundogan cost City 20M and he was immense for them between the age of 29-32 when played right!
I don't believe we have fuck all to spend either and we should raise a fair few quid! We might have to make a Jan purchase this year too to even it out.

I think for the next few seasons we will be cash-strapped. FFP operates on a backwards looking basis so we will be punished for our past sins of overspending and underselling and having a bloated payroll and so on.
We should forget the Madrid comparisons. They are refreshing a very successful team. We are trying to build one.
And with our budgetary constraints the best way to do that is to buy young and cheap and develop players.

A bit harsh on INEOS. They only took over end of December 23 and we had no money to spend in January because Murtough/Fletcher overspent in the two previous windows and failed to balance the books with player sales. And it is hardly their fault we failed to quality for top 4. They've inherited an absolute mess. And with FFP they can't just throw money at the problem especially as most of our squad are unsellable. But they are wasting their time fishing in the Premier League. The days when the smaller teams are selling clubs are long gone. Instead they hang on to their best players unless they get absolute top dollar. We'd be far better off scouring Europe where clubs need to balance the books through player sales and in many cases there are attractive release clauses. For example we can get Inacio for £50m as he has a release clause. Zirzkee for £34m as he has a release clause. And Fofana of Monaco just has a year left on his contract so can be bought for around £25m. That is a gross spend of £110m. So even if the only player we manage to sell is Greenwood for £30m we will be within FFP limits. It was announced then but they only actually took over in February.

I put a link on here months ago to a video that analysed the CAS hearing which overturned City's UEFA punishment. It sets out very clearly how UEFA conceded the appeal.

I put a link on here months ago to a video that analysed the CAS hearing which overturned City's UEFA punishment. It sets out very clearly how UEFA conceded the appeal. Since you’re too lazy, I’ll re-post it for you.. There's no love for city within UEFA. It was the court of sports arbitration that ruled in cities favour in that instance on a technicality. There can't be any significant gaps in the PL case, else it will happen again. Politics could also get involved here because there's alot of their money in the city of London. Not according to this...

Jonathan David 1 year left on his contract could be available for around £25m. Villa, Tottenham and West Ham also interested but you'd think we'd be able to beat them to his signature. Of course he might decide he wants more regular football than we can offer. But at the same time he is a different type of player from Hojlund so would offer us something different and quite versatile and there will be plenty of games for him to play.

Adam Wharton is the player we should sign in midfield. It's not just a question of picking a player and paying, it's also about suitability and how likely they are to fit in or want to move. He's absolute class already and him and Mainoo are the future for England, but as important, he is the right personality and a Northern lad who would settle easy. I watched that video interview with him recently from the England camp and he's such a humble bloke who doesn't like the spotlight or fuss. He sounded very Scholes like when he was young.
I'd love Zubimendi because he is the right type of player and more experienced, but I don't think he will leave Spain and he's similar type of home boy. Neves is too expensive and IMO overrated at that price.
We should get it done for Wharton now and augment that by signing Rabiot for the experience and is a big upgrade on McTominay. We could sell McTominay and let go Erikksen and it's basically minimal net spend and a big upgrade in Central Midfield, a great investment you lose nothing!
Another year or so and Wharton will be breaking Rice transfer fee record. He's way better at this age

Lots of noise about us triggering Zirkee’s release clause.

Lots of noise about us triggering Zirkee’s release clause. Seeing that too… Haven’t seen him play personally… How good is he? I remember a lot being said about him a while ago…
