They got him for half what we paid for Antony and Sancho. And he's managed about 23 goals and 8 assists in a season and a half. That is more goal contributions than Antony and Sancho put together at their time at the club. It isn't fantastic but it is above average and satisfactory for a squad player.
We are aiming to get Zirzkee for a similar figure. Again we shouldn't expect miracles but he is being signed as a squad player. He will provide some competition and backup for Hojlund and also give us a different kind of option upfront as he is more of a creator and has great link-up play and has the ability to play as a false 9 or number 10 which might benefit Rashford who is best as an inside forward a role it is difficult for him to play with a conventional number 9 (part of the reason he struggled the seasons when we had Ronaldo and Hojlund as target men). And while Wout was much maligned he did have his uses as a facilitator helping Rashford to thrive.

Gapko has been largely useless for the Scousers, lest we forget. just got far better players to compete with to start. for a second striker / squad player he would have been far better than the options we spent over double on. I was annoyed when we missed him if I’m being honest but haven’t seen anything from him in the league that’s bothered me.

Fabregas said something interesting about Gakpo on punditry in one of the early Dutch games. He said that he’s a player who needs constant instruction about where he needs to be and what he needs to be doing. It was said in quite a scathing way. We can all critique a player from what we see in front of our eyes, but I thought that was an interesting little additional remark from Fabregas who has presumably heard bits and bobs about him. Fabregas has been good in the studio anyway. Whenever anyone does well in a Euros, I just think, yeah well Milan Baros was top scorer in 2004 and he played the game permanently staring at his own feet, so anything is possible init. Didn’t help him in his Liverpool career post-Euro 2004. He was still average as.

Btw- Pellestri has been outstanding for the Uruguayan national side this summer, who are on course to reach the final of the Copa. And yet he’s barely been given a sniff in a position where we have struggled. He’s a good kid too by all accounts so attitude isn’t the issue.
Just seems odd.

Also agree rating players by their performance in the Euros/World Cup is always pretty speculative. Remember Karol Poborsky? (if you're old enough

So according to Romano, just need to agree fees for Zirkzee and De Ligt. Wages agreed and payments to agents.
Zirkzee should be easy as there is a buyout clause

I’d love to get Ugarte over the line asap. His performances for Uruguay might have put him in the shop window.
