We are 11 points behind 4th place Tottenham with 7 games to play. With our crappy goals difference even if Tottenham lose all their remaining games we'd still need to win more than half our games to make top 4.
The only big game that matters this season is the FA Cup final against Manchester City (assuming we get past Coventry). Win that and even without top 4 Erik is probably guaranteed to keep his job.
But the problem is that while we can beat teams like Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea etc if we keep fighting until the final minute and they don't take their chances Manchester City are a different proposition and a lot more ruthless and even if we park the bus like we did in our last meeting they will still find a way through.

Top 4 is pretty much impossible. Would need to win virtually all our remaining games and need Tottenham and Villa to lose virtually all their remaining games. Those 7 points dropped against Fulham, Chelsea and Liverpool from winning positions were incredibly costly.
Better to start planning for next season and a likely FA Cup final against Manchester City.
Varane and Casemiro are probably on the way out this summer. So lets give Kambwala more gametime and see if we can integrate Mount into central midfield which was Erik's plan when we signed him.
Rashford is injured and playing like crap. So let's bench him for a few games to see if we can get him fired up for the FA Cup final.
Personally I'd like to see us try a midfield three of Mainoo and Mount and Scotty. At least all of them will put in a good shift. We can play Bruno and Garnacho out wide and get them to feed Hojlund.
Another idea worth trying is playing Mount on the left and instructing him to give Dalot some protection as he's a massive weak link for us.
If there is some evidence at least that we are trying new things and setting ourselves up to do a lot better next season that would at least give us some hope.
