These mistakes at the back have to get sorted because we won't beat better teams like this. Defensively we've looked nervous and make silly clearances and passes, I wasn't happy with the defending in the match against Lille either. If we play Chelsea or Arsenal with this kind of defending we'll be dispatched quickly. Having a good attack helps because we can keep the opposition having to track back and defend as well, but the team really needs to step it up. At this stage of the season we can surely blow our advantage if we don't play top quality flowing football.

When Edwin Van Der Sar is in the side we don't look that shaky, I think when he's back we'll be fine.

I thought we played some really good football at times against a Boro side that were quite good. Only problems were, as usual, Kuszczak making some bad decisions and flapping a bit on crosses, and of course a lack of organization at set pieces. Their 2nd goal was ridiculous. How the fuck was noone marking Boateng or even standing somewhere near him? Also, when nobody went to mark him why didn't Gary or Rio sort this out and tell someone to get him? Positives were that Carrick looked fairly tidy, Heinze was very good and Rooney scored even though he played shit for much of the game. Also I think O'Shea now has the required confidence boost and/or increase in passing ability required to do a credible job of looking like a CM.

We should have got a second goal in the first half to wrap it up, but oh well. A replay at OT is annoying, but at least we're at home and will have Scholesy back. On the positives: - Nice to see we're finally awarded a penalty! Boateng's post match comments made me laugh, claiming the ref ROBBED them, when he had two hands on the ball, thinking "protecting his face" was a valid excuse - Southgate admitted he was wrong when he said Ronaldo dived in the last match. An apology would be nice, considering he branded him a cheat. - Ronaldo got a goal outside the league - United are playing good football again

Im glad because Tuesdays match is completly pointless and a massive risk. I hope Ronaldo and Rooney picked up some 'knocks' too! ;D

Best we've played since the turn of the year easily. Should have won this, but a draw at that place is a decent result plus it means Scholes is back for the Blackburn game which is nice.

Giggs did very well again. Also, Tomasz's throws are the best since Peter Schmeichel. u should c our boy foster throw... anywayz im very dissapionted. 3 games in just over one week now and with the injuries we have our players will be very tired to say the least. lets hope we can regain our 9 point lead over chelsea when we play bolton, and then get into the semis against boro again.

Well Kuszcak is clearly a good shot-stopper no doubts about that but he doesn't seem good at coming for crosses or kicking.

Sir Alex Ferguson believes United's FA Cup quarter-final draw at Middlesbrough could have ended very differently had the Reds gone in at the break a goal to the good.
Wayne Rooney had given the visitors the lead on 24 minutes, but a mix-up in the United defence allowed Lee Cattermole to fire Boro level right on half-time.
"Goals change games and their equaliser gave them that little break they needed to get back into the match," Sir Alex told MUTV. "It became a rousing Cup tie after that because Middlesbrough were absolutely outplayed in the first half.
"We looked back to our best and the football we played was fantastic. We really should have been three or four nil up, but we made the wrong decision at times when we got into good positions.
"To be fair they had a couple of half chances but apart from that we controlled the first period.
"You need luck in the cup and they got a bit of that with their first goal," he added. "But we have to hold our hands up for the second one - it was bad marking in our part. We shouldn't be losing goals like that.
"The important thing is we're still in the cup and although some people might say we could do without the replay, the best energy enhancer of all time is winning football matches. Hopefully we can keep on doing that because it's the best thing for us."
A Cristiano Ronaldo penalty conversion earned the Reds a replay at Old Trafford on Monday week after George Boateng had handled in the area.
"They were going mad in their dug-out when we got the penalty but it was a hand-ball, no question," insisted the United boss. "It was the only real decision we got off Rob Styles all day and thankfully Ronaldo tucked it away.
"I think we deserved a draw. The team is playing with great spirit and there's an excellent work ethic within the side. So I was delighted with our play.
"We've played four away games in the last few weeks and we've had to battle through some of them. But we looked to have our rhythm back against Lille in midweek. We played with good discipline and good patience and you saw that again at The Riverside.
"The replay won't be easy because Middlesbrough will still think they've got a chance too. But we expect to complete the job at Old Trafford."

Some better attacking football from United this morn. had some good passing movements and link play, but the defending was very poor. Boetang unmarked was ridiculous. Boro did play well though.
negatives: - Argh add another match to our already busy enough schedule... - the marking - Kuszcak was poor at dealing w/ crosses. Positives: - Rooney scored - Ronaldo scored outside of the league, again showing his confidence/coolness at taking spot kicks - Decent glimpses of our great attacking play, giving me hope that although our defense may not be up to scratch, we can easily put teams on the back foot and I have confidence in our attack. - replay at OT, with Paul Scholes back (thats right innit?), should go through. - We have a nice match on tuesday to look forward to, and Rio and Vidic shall be rested.

I think thats the best we've played in a while. We had middlebrough on the ropes for long periods but I am confident we can do the business at old trafford. Good game.

I though he had a three match ban, so the games he'd miss would be Boro, Bolton and Blackburn. So now he'll return for the Blackburn game instead surely? Unless this friendly on tuesday counts as a game?

I half expected this kind of result. Middlesbrough are an odd team who generally are distinctly average side, but a team who can beat anyone on their day. Great cup tie though.
