I'm hoping we show up for this one and get a 1-0 win then finish them off at OT. Roma will be tough and I have mixed feelings about our chances but we've had a good year and can get the wins when we need them.

I thought I heard somewhere that Totti was suspended for the first leg?

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has sprung a surprise by including Louis Saha and Darren Fletcher in his squad to face Roma.
The pair have been out for five weeks with hamstring and ankle injuries respectively and were expected to play for the reserves on Thursday.
However, they have both travelled to Italy for the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final.
Park Ji-Sung has been left behind because of an unspecified injury.
Defenders Gary Neville, Patrice Evra, Mikael Silvestre and Nemanja Vidic are all out of the tie, while Roma will be without midfielder David Pizarro, who is serving a one-match ban.

Man Utd (from): Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Heaton, O'Shea, Brown, Ferdinand, Heinze, Ronaldo, Scholes, Carrick, Fletcher, Eagles, Giggs, Richardson, Rooney, Saha, Solskjaer, Smith, Dong.
Great news about Saha and Fletcher. But what has happened to Evra?

We only have 4 defenders in the squad (unless you include Rischardson). But without Park in the squad now I have a feeling Richardson will start on the left wing (I hope I'm wrong). My team would be:
---------------------------VDS-----------------------
O'Shea--------Rio---------Brown-------Heinze
Ronaldo------Scholes-----Carrick----Giggs
--------------Rooney--------Saha---------------
Or Solskjaer if Saha is not fully fit.
But I think Fergie will go for:
------------------------VDS------------------------
O'Shea-------Rio----------Brown----Heinze
Ronaldo--Scholes--Carrick--Richardson
-----------------Giggs-----------------------------
--------------------------Rooney------------------
This will be a tough game but I think we'll get a 1-1 draw which would be a good result.

Dayam, that's bad news about Park. Clearly Saha isn't actually ready otherwise he always would have been going. Not good.

Where's Park and Evra??? OUr back 4 is fairly self-explanatory now.
Hope Saha is fit, I will cry if Richardson starts.

Oh man... I'm getting quite nervous now. Especially when I read that Park wont be playing. I wonder what happened I'd hate to see Richardson start on the wing and I'd hate even more to play 4-5-1, but I believe we have enough quality in the side to produce. Ronaldo, Carrick, Scholes, and Giggs are all in sparkling form, and I'll never count Rooney out to score.

A shame about Park because he's always great to have when we need a special bit of energy on the pitch. Richardson....no way, no thanks.

Looking thin at the back. We just need to score more goals than they do! Having said that 1-1 would be a good result.

We just need to score more goals than they do! Good plan, that #thumb# Seriously though, Roma are no mugs, it will be interesting to see how Fergie deals with the fact that Roma use no out & out strikers most of the time. He's said he will be more cautious in Europe so it really wouldn't suprise me if we let Roma come onto us a little at first to see how they set out and start with 4-5-1. Rooney & Ronaldo must perform on this stage, at least one of them HAS to step forward and play. I think Giggs and Scholes will be crucial in controlling this game. I'm sure we'd all love 4-4-2 all out attack, classic United or what have you, that just won't happen. If not because Fergie doesn't want that in Europe, then because Roma will frustrate us with the way they set out. Dayam, that's bad news about Park. Clearly Saha isn't actually ready otherwise he always would have been going. Not good. It wouldn't be the first time Fergie's lied about injuries.. I'm more concerned about our lack of defensive cover, Cathcart hasn't been included after Fergie said he would be. ...and just as i typed that Saha set to feature Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed Louis Saha will play some part in United's Champions League quarter-final first leg against Roma on Wednesday night. The French striker is fit again after a hamstring strain and travelled out to Italy with the team on Tuesday morning. Darren Fletcher also joined the squad. Certainly, Saha is expected to be included on the bench in the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday night. "Louis will play some part in the match," confirmed Sir Alex at his pre-match press briefing. “Ji-sung Park got a knee injury on Saturday so he misses out. It’s not been a great weekend, losing Nemanja Vidic [broken collar bone] and now Ji-sung. But hopefully we’ll cope." Saha and Fletcher are close to full fitness, but at his press conference in the team hotel shortly after arriving in the Italian capital, Sir Alex admitted to his hand being forced somewhat due to injuries within his squad. "They’ve done all their training," he said. "My intention was to give them some playing time in the Reserves against Blackburn on Thursday, particularly for Darren, not so much for Louis. I’d pencilled him in for next Saturday [against Portsmouth]. “But, given the fact that we have lost two players, in Ji-sung and Vida, it was necessary for us to bring our experienced players along. "The recent injuries we've picked up, to Saha, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Gary Neville, they have been a test for the squad," he added. "But we've shown with our results that we can cope."

Some interesting disciplinary info:
De Rossi, Mexes, Perrotta & Totti are all on yellow cards. It wud be super if they get booked tomorrow. Let's wind 'em up boys! Pizarro is suspended for the 1st leg (but that doesn't help much; they'll be fine without him on home turf).
On the other hand, Evra, Scholes & Ronaldo are on yellows as well. I hope they (especially Scholesy) keep calm.

Im starting to shit myself for this game now. If we had a fully fit squad id be a lot more confident, but im worried. Roma have some great players and if we come away with a 0-0 ill be happy with that. I don't see it of course as United never have games that end goalless. I hope he takes a risk on Saha and doesn't go 4-5-1. Really pisses me off.
Come on United!!!!

i'm starting to feel more and more uneasy for this aswell. I wasn't overwhelmingly confident before staurday but then with Vidic and now Park (although lets face it he'd have only had 20minutes) out it's a right bum tingler.
plus i think he'll start 4-5-1
and can't see why he's so reluctant to play Heinze in the middle like he does for argentina, O'Shea would be far more comfortable on the left than on the right.
This would be my XI
--------------------------------VDS----------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------- Brown-----------Rio---------------Heinze--------O'Shea ------------------------------------------------------------------- Ronaldo------Scholes--------Carrick------------Giggs ------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------Rooney---(Whoevers Fittest)-----------
but i reckon we'll start 4-5-1 with
--------------------------------VDS----------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------- O'Shea-----------Rio---------------Brown--------Heinze ------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------Scholes-------Carrick-------Giggs------------ Ronaldo---------------------------------------Richardson ---------------------------Rooney-----------------------------
it'll be interesting anyway.... everybody remember all suspicions tonight please. all my teddy's are already in 1999 formation...

I think it's a no-brainer, SAF will play 4-5-1, defo! I'll have my Utd PJ's on and be up at 4.45 to watch.......and my bum's squeaking already! (Yahay, 200 posts, and most from my desk at work. Thanks boss for the extra free time you so kindly give me)
