Wow I had no idea Italy was getting that bad. I'm reading Among the Thugs right now, a lot of you know it's about the hooliganism in England in the 80's. I'm suprised at how violent people were then. Italy is really getting that bad? Hope the best for Tom.
As for the match, I'm confident that we'll beat them at home and move on, I'm not too worried about it.
And Legends7, from what I've been told my Easteuro the kid deserved the ban fuckin homo. I'm sorry but if I was there holy shit I'd have torn him a new one. Saying shit about Scholes I disagreed with and it would have made me angry but what he said about Yank supporters took it too far.

Excuse me if someone's already mentioned this earlier in the thread, but where was Giggsy tonight? I think him and Scholes, instead of leading by example, both let us down when they were needed the most.
I found the whole game a bloody effort to watch and kept having to walk around as I couldn't sit still.
Anyhow, 2-1 is ultimately a good result under the circumstances and full credit to the team for digging in.

He must have really set you off, but with his Scholes bashing im not surprised. My apologies mate, but I cant...the fella started off with Scholesy and called him names...that's enough for me...and he just kept on adding fuel to the fire with his rant about us Americans...I cannot and will not take any bashing from anyone about and of the United Legends (esp. Giggsy, Scholesy, and Ole), of America and India, of United in general, and of SAF...anyone who does, fair warning, I'll take my revenge on you even if it takes me my whole life to do it! #nono#

from skysports ------ Trouble flared around the ground before the UEFA Champions League quarter-final, but the scenes in the stadium were utterly shameful.
Missiles were hurled as fans taunted each other and the Italian police drove Manchester United supporters back with batons.
United fans were kept behind for 90 minutes after Roma's 2-1 win as a precaution, but 18 of the travelling contingent needed hospital treatment.
"Eighteen Manchester United fans needed medical attention at a local hospital," a spokesman for the police department in Rome said.
"Sixteen of the fans were discharged while two of the fans will remain in hospital overnight. However, they are not in serious condition.
"Two Roma fans were also taken to hospital.
"We will continue to monitor the situation, but we are hoping there will be no further clashes overnight."
Uefa have confirmed they are awaiting the report from their delegate, but their communications director William Gaillard stressed they had no hold over the Italian police's handling of the affair.
"We will be waiting for the delegate's report and the control and disciplinary body will be looking at the television images to see the dynamics of what actually happened," said Gaillard. "In Italy, the police are in charge of security in the stadium, stewards have nothing to do with it.
"We will also have to see what role Manchester United fans had in the incidents because they had some problems in Lens earlier this year."
United were fined by Uefa last month for trouble involving their fans during the last-16 first leg against Lille.

United were fined by Uefa last month for trouble involving their fans during the last-16 first leg against Lille...Yes, that's right UEFA, fine us again for something that wasn't our own fucking fault!!! That was terrible last night. It's not good for any English team to go to Italy when the Italian police are just as much hooligans as the Italian "fans". I really hope Tom is ok and gets home safe and well. We were having a good joke yesterday, but we couldn't have expected that to happen on the scale it did. Hope he is ok. The really sad thing is, real football supporters just want to go and watch the game and enjoy it. The last thing on their minds is the possibility they could get attacked. If UEFA don't do something radical about Italian football, I think all British clubs who have matches against Italian teams, should not sell tickets for the away leg. If United have to go to Italy again, I'd be happier if we go without one single fan. Looking at the coverage of the trouble, we are very lucky none of our fans were killed. If UEFA don't do something and we carry on taking our fans, there will be more trouble. And someday, one of our fans will be killed. Onto the game, I think we did very well considering we were 10 men for almost an hour. Paul Scholes was stupid. Not a disgrace. Just stupid. He's never ever going to learn the art of tackling. He's the best in the world at other things, but tackling, he's umm...crap! When he got shown the red, Roma could easily have gone on to settle the tie. But, they failed. 2-1 to Roma and us with only 10 men really really feels like a draw. I don't know who we'll put in instead of Scholes, but when we play them here at OT, I'm confident we can get at least a 1-0. That will be enough.

Didnt get to see any of the the match, shame about the crowd troubles and scholesy though. 10 men getting a 2-1 away result is decent though.

Two words for the coppers and the roma fans "ITALIAN BASTARDS" ... Sums up my feelings of them...
Tell me this why can't Uefa/Fifa ban Italian sides from European Competition until they get themselves sorted out domestically and when they get themselves sorted out allow them back in, simple as, because until the Italians get their security etc up to scratch for Domestic games, European away supporters, esp British are going to be in for a rough ride when visiting the country and Rome in particular...
What a corrupt police force!!!
Does anyone else think there was scent of collusion between the cops and the Roma Ultra fans, i think this is quite evident from where the cops where standing, i.e. only with our fans!

Decent away performance with 10 men, disappointed in our more experienced players, ie Scholes and Giggs, we really needed them to stand up and be counted.
However, the younger lads stepped it up a notch, Brown, Carrick, C.Ron and Rooney all had 1st rate games, and O'Shea had an ok game against a very skillful, quick player.

Eighteen Manchester United fans needed medical attention at a local hospital, a spokesman for the police department in Rome said. Sixteen of the fans were discharged while two of the fans will remain in hospital overnight. However, they are not in serious condition. An interview with one of the fans kept in hospital revealed 3 of them were stabbed, the one interviewed would've died if the blade went in a tiny bit further and peirced his artery. He went on to reveal they were stabbed outside the stadium after a taxi dropped them off at the Roma side of the stadium, they were susequently ambushed by Roma fans in masks. The Italian police cheif has criticised the English for criticising Italian police, claiming:'it's what the English do.' The worst thing is we will probably get a bigger fine than anyone else for this.

UEFA open Roma violence probe
UEFA are to take a tough line after the violent scenes in the Stadio Olimpico - and that could mean bad news for Manchester United and Roma.
UEFA have launched an investigation into the crowd trouble and will announce any disciplinary proceedings after the Easter weekend.
Both United and Roma can expect to be charged.
New UEFA president Michel Platini last week wrote to the heads of all the European national associations calling for a 'zero tolerance' approach to football-related violence.
In his letter, Platini said: "Violence on the field, in the stands and outside stadiums is poisoning football.
"While taking care to respect their independence, I have asked our disciplinary bodies to apply our regulations as strictly as possible.
"We need a policy of zero tolerance against violence and racism."
Disciplinary action would be a real concern for United as it is less than two weeks since they were fined £6,300 by UEFA for trouble involving their fans during the first leg of their last-16 tie against Lille.
The onus for security rests mainly with the home club however, and Roma can also expect to be charged.
A statement read: "UEFA have opened an investigation into the incidents that occurred at the UCL match AS Roma-Manchester United FC.
"UEFA is currently gathering evidence and will be studying the official reports of the referee, delegate and security officer in detail before announcing any further action."
On the subject of policing, UEFA communications director William Gaillard said the organisation was in favour of low-key approach but had the power to influence security arrangements.
He said: "In Italy the police are responsible for public order inside stadiums. Stewards are not responsible for security - they just show you to your seat.
"We are definitely in favour of a soft policing approach and the use of stewards rather than the involvement of riot police.
"But we cannot tell the Italian authorities, or indeed those of any other country, how to apply law and order." =============== www.teamtalk.com=============== Go on Platini. Fine us. Go on. You know you want to! Laughable. It really is.
