I think the community shield has taken on more improtance over the last few years. The match always seems to told more significance than it used too and is taken more seriously now. I'm looking forwar to two full first teams both going for a win!

From Sky Sports:
Premier League champions Manchester United face FA Cup winners Chelsea in the Community Shield on Sunday, live on Sky Sports 1.
Sir Alex Ferguson's side emerged from last season as the top side in England as they swept to the title in emphatic fashion.
But Chelsea had the last laugh when they denied United the double with a hard-fought victory in the first FA Cup final at the new Wembley Stadium.
Manchester United and Chelsea now renew their rivalry in the traditional season opener, hoping to lay down a marker for the coming campaign.
Both teams have brought in new players over the summer but, in contrast to recent years, it is United who have caught the eye and Chelsea who have been relatively reserved.
No place for new boys
United are set to have a very familiar look about them as Owen Hargreaves, Nani and Anderson are all expected to be left out of the starting line-up.
Carlos Tevez will not feature either despite West Ham confirming they had agreed a deal for the Argentine to move to Old Trafford.
Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney are therefore likely to spearhead United's attack.
Blues not at full-strength
Chelsea have a number of injury worries, with Michael Ballack and Wayne Bridge both ruled out with ankle injuries.
Salomon Kalou is also sidelined with a knee problem, but Frank Lampard is available despite a minor toe injury.
Ashley Cole and Arjen Robben could also feature, while summer recruit Florent Malouda is set to start in a three-man attack along with Didier Drogba and Joe Cole.
There could be competitive debuts for Steve Sidwell and Tal Ben Haim.

its always great to beat chelsea so even if its a meaningless game getting a psychological advantage over the scumbags will be great.. plus united will want to put on a show for the fans who have travelled down.. i think wel beat them about 2-1

Doesn't the winner of the Charity Shield tend NOT to win the league? Remember reading it somewhere.

i wont be worried if we fail to win tommorrow. it is basically the last chance to blow out the cobwebs of the close season and open up the throttle a bit. but it will be good to frighten chelsea and show the world that the red juggernaught is moving and nothing is gonna stop it . the premiersip and europe is gonna be s!@%$*&g themselves now cos no one is gonna want to play us and be humiliated anywhere

I think Chelsea have the edge on us in terms of fitness.
Our first real competitive game came against Inter, and in all fairness we were all over the place in the first half. The defence was shocking.
Chelsea's pre-season has been alot more competitive than ours, so they really have to be favourites tomorrow.
I know to some the game may be meaningless, but it can, and does lay a pschological blow for the coming campaign.
Here's hoping we can pull it off somehow.

I donno about that, but I do know that we've done badly in it and then gone on to have great seasons! Not bothered about the result too much, still just a friendly. Would take a loss tomoz and a win first day of the league over a draw or loss next weekend! I want the real season to start damnit.
