Doesn't the winner of the Charity Shield tend NOT to win the league? Remember reading it somewhere. Liverpool won it last year didn't they? Maybe it's best we don't win tomorrow then....

I'll be okay with not winning tomorrow, Chelsea made this massive point of sending us into the summer with the hurt of not winning the FA Cup, did they, NO it didn't actually affect us much after the event. Now, as it was then, it would be nice to win and put a marker down for the new season but it's not essential because we all know that the season will have us geared up whether we win tomorrow or not. This has little bearing on the season other than it being a nice day out.
Despite all that I have just written, it is Chelsea we are playing and beating them is always nice. Having said that, seeing new players in United colours has always excited me more about this game, more than the actual result.

Agree not to worried about the result cant see how this will affect the up coming season would be nice to beat Chelsea but either way the game against Reading is more important.

we're missing scholes, hargreaves and anderson so we're not travelling with our best team. I hope we play our way unlike the cup final.

i reckon this will rather go to penalties or we'll be beaten 1-0. I just dont think we have it here today, Chelsea have a stronger team atm, due to our injuries. Although you never know if rooney ( the only player that played well in the cup final) and ronaldo turn it on we could trounce em. But i think chelsea will win it today, but i mean it doesnt have any bearing on the premiership, infact i think the last few times we've won the charity shield i think we've lost the premiership :S I think the last two times we have won it, we've lost the premiship. Arsenal- summer 2003-champions 04............omg who did we play in summer 07? did chelsea win the fa cup that year? i think they did, who won the charity shield? ?( all i remember is a great beckham goal )

1 game in pre-season doesnt and shouldnt affect a 38 game league. Community Shield jinx is a stupid superstition.
I dont care who wins, but I want the young guns we have (Evans, Gibson, Eagles) to be given a chance to do some crunchy munchy action going. I want United to win by attacking from the word go although I dont care what the result will be.

Anyone care to post a possible line-up ? After the Friday match SAF said it would be basically the same team as we used against Milan plus something from Fletcher and Sylvestre. That means: VDS Brown Vidic Rio Evra Ronaldo Carrick O'Shea Eagles Rooney Giggs The BBC says the squad is: Man Utd: Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Brown, Bardsley, Pique, Simpson, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evans, Silvestre, Evra, Ronaldo, Fletcher, O'Shea, Carrick, Eagles, Giggs, Rooney. But I think Pique, Evans, Simpson played last night so I'd be surprised if they come on. Hargreaves won't play until Wednesday and it looks like Nani, Anderson and last season's injured are all still out of action. I'm over in Spain at the moment so here we'll be watching the Super Copa Inglesa between United and Chelsea. What's in a name eh
